Harvey

Does anyone have any thoughts? Baby boy expected any day now and we’ve struggled to agree on a boy’s name at any point during the pregnancy.
We half agreed on Ryan but I wasn’t sure. I wanted Oliver but OH doesn’t like it.
I’m just not sure I love Harvey. But it was mentioned on a tv show (the Australian yummy mummy one Blush) and OH was quite taken!
The only other person I’ve mentioned it to was my mum who mentioned something about a giant rabbit from a film in the 50s!

I'm like Harvey not keen on Ryan

Shadow1234 · 13/02/2019 00:48

I think Harvey is a lovely name.

Tavannach · 13/02/2019 01:01

For me it's the name of the very sweet, slightly crazy dog I used to walk. He was named after the sherry, but there is an old Hollywood classic film called Harvey, which is basically about a giant spirit rabbit called Harvey. Steven Spielberg remade it fairly recently I think.
So it's a "no" from me.
Aiden is fine. Ryan not so keen

Fraser.
Joshua
Joseph

I really really dislike it. Sorry.

And as for Have you considered... Joby

Don’t. Seriously dont. When he meets a Scottish person they will crease up into uncontrollable laughter.

Cookit · 13/02/2019 07:47

I much prefer Harvey to some of the other suggestions like Harley and Riley.
Harvey is nice.

bigbluebus · 13/02/2019 08:05

I volunteer in the infant classes at a primary school. There is a Harvey in the class I work in and another in the class below - so not an unusual name in the under 6's around here.

StopMakingAFoolOutofMe · 13/02/2019 08:09

Why is Oliver being popular putting you off? I've never had more than one Oliver in a class and it's a lovely, classic name. If that's the name you like, go for it!

I really dislike Ryan though.

TigerQuoll · 13/02/2019 08:11

I love the name Harvey, I also love Jimmy Stewart and that movie.

SallyWD · 13/02/2019 08:12

Love it

daisypond · 13/02/2019 08:13

I like Harvey.

EyeDrops · 13/02/2019 08:13

I really like it!!

Mynameisnotthis · 13/02/2019 08:21

Thanks for more thoughts!
betty I live in the west of Scotland. No chance of Joby (have known one in the past - thankfully didn’t crease into uncontrollable laughter in their presence but there were definitely comments made out of earshot) but do appreciate PPs taking the time to offer suggestions.
Im not really put off by the popularity of Oliver and would like Ollie as a nickname. But OH doesn’t like it so it’s out! I got the final say with our DD’s name so seems only fair for it to be OH this time.
Stories of moody fucker rabbits and crazy dogs have given me a bit of a giggle tho. Thanks all!
Now just to keep thinking labour thoughts....

I think it was 60th or thereabouts in the top 100 of boys names in 2017, so not that unpopular but not everywhere too. It’ll sound nice in a west coast accent :)

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 13/02/2019 10:20

I wouldn't use it where I am..the Harvey's around here all come from the estate....

BettyUnderswoob · 13/02/2019 10:25

Apt username, Thesnobby 😂

StylishDuck · 13/02/2019 12:47

When I posted on here about naming my DS Harris a few people mentioned Rolf Harris. But honestly it's never been an issue. Like you say, plenty of arseholes out there, why let them taint a perfectly nice name. So don't worry about the Harvey Weinstein thing.

I like Harvey, it makes me think of Harvey Specter from Suits and that's a good thing.

(I'm West of Scotland too and had a wee chuckle to myself at Joby Grin)

Antonin · 13/02/2019 13:21

Orlando?

Calloway · 13/02/2019 13:25

I like Harvey. Far nicer than Henry and George. Who cares if someone suspects a Harvey of being......working class.

MikeUniformMike · 13/02/2019 14:59

I like it.
Ryan is nice but was overused about 20 years ago.

Mynameisnotthis · 13/02/2019 15:28

Thanks again! I’ve been trying it out today (telling him to get moving) and will see how it feels when he arrives!
Exactly stylish!
Meh Calloway, I feel the same! I’m clearly not upper class anyway given my shortlist Grin

I know an old boy called Harvey too, he’s a good man (and, shock, middle class!)

Megan2018 · 13/02/2019 16:34

I don't like it personally - but it's not classic enough for my taste. It's not weird or anything, just not my bag. I do know quite a few but not loads.

Oliver is far nicer!

aliceandkids77 · 15/02/2019 08:32

I adore Harvey. I have two girls but our set boy name ever since I was pregnant with my first has been Harvey. Think its classic yet has that ‘v’ that Harry doesn’t have which makes it more exciting! good luck x

Yippeee · 15/02/2019 08:34

It’s ok. I’m a teacher and never known one. Harley seems more popular.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 15/02/2019 08:37

DS didn't have a definite name until he was born. Why not wait until he's here to decide on one 100%
