Whitney, Alexa, or Lexi???

Good evening!
Hubby and I are currently down to three choices: Whitney, Alexa, and Lexi. We adore all three of them, but just don't know which one should be it.
The problem is, she has an older brother named Alex, so we think that it would be really awkward if we have a Alex and a Alexa.
Also, we are not sure wether to name her Alexa and call her Lexi, or just Lexi(and if we name her Lexi we can kind of avoid the Alex and Alexa thing, but we just love love Alexa and don't want to ditch it).
And we use to really think about naming her Whitney Alexa, but feel bad for using such a adorable name as a middle name.
So what do you guys think?
Ps: we really don't want new names, but thanks.

None.

Sorry.

Love Alexa but not with Alex. I'd go Whitney Alexa, you can always call her Lexi still as its a nn based on her middle name.

firawla · 08/02/2019 01:32

Alexa and Lexi are both very very similar to Alex so I’d say it would be more practical to go with Whitney to prevent people getting them mixed up... even things like their credit records getting mixed up as adults? My dh and all the males of his family have a very similar name and have had issues with things like this so I’d personally avoid names that are so close as that?

DramaAlpaca · 08/02/2019 01:33

I think having an Alex & an Alexa or Lexi is beyond silly.

So I suppose Whitney of the three, even though it's sorry a hideous name.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 08/02/2019 01:34

Whitney for sure.

Alexa is that Amazon thing now.

Lovingbenidorm · 08/02/2019 01:35

Alexa will cause problems when you ask “Alexa, can you dim the lights “etc
Whitney......mmmmmmmm....... not keen
Lexi, I like.
What about Alexandra, Lexi for short?

Tavannach · 08/02/2019 01:39

Don't be daft. You can't call her Alexa if her brother's name is Alex. Nor Lexi. That leaves Whitney which isn't great imo.
Time for a new list. You know, for a new baby. New name.

HeronLanyon · 08/02/2019 01:46

Are you by any chance in the us ? For some reason I thought so. Of course Alex and Alexa will potentiAlly cause problems. Lexi as a nickname yes but not as a namenfor a grown woman. Whitney - sounds naff to me BUT so what - if you like it then probably we are just in different ‘name preference’ sets.
Congrats btw and good luck.

@HeronLanyon:
Yep and thanks😀

I'd go for Whitney..
I can't really picture a 50yr old adult called Lexi..

HeronLanyon · 08/02/2019 01:54

Op - aha Whitney and lexi ni doubt have different connotations/usages than here in uk. Also ‘naff’ ! Grin

Mlk77 · 08/02/2019 02:00

Ok, so now it's between Alexa and Whitney. No more Lexi.

If there are no other names you will consider, then go for Whitney. I think it would seem very odd to have an Alex and Alexa, it's like your DD didn't get her own name, but you just added an "a" to her brother's name. There's also the whole Amazon thing too.

Call her Whitney, and then she has her own name.

RainbowWaffles · 08/02/2019 02:45

I think you know you can’t have an Alex and Alexa. That shouldn’t even be a conversation, it’s ridiculous. I knew one set of siblings with similar, but less similar games than this, and everyone just thought it was some kind of joke. It’s beyone unimaginative.

Whitney is the only possible option of the three.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/02/2019 03:24

It'll have to be Whitney. You can hardly have an Alex and Alexa or even a Lexie.

DrCristinaYang · 08/02/2019 04:52

Sorry but I HATE the name Whitney, all I can think off is her from Eastenders. I'm also not liking the other two.

blackcat86 · 08/02/2019 05:44

I'm not a fan of the name Whitney but Alexa whilst a beautiful name isn't a good idea with the Amazon device and a sibling named Alex. These is nothing wrong with Alexa as a middle name though if you really want to include it. Personally I would steer clear due to the Amazon thing and Google some other girls names online.

Rubyroses3 · 08/02/2019 06:22

Whitney

Nquartz · 08/02/2019 06:25

I think whitney, it reminds me of the comedian Whitney Cummings & I like her.

Alexa is too weird with the Amazon devices these days I'm afraid.

duvetdays1 · 08/02/2019 06:27

All absolutely dreadful, sorry OP but it's time for a new - more imaginative list.

onesiei · 08/02/2019 11:49

You can't have an Alexa and an Alex. That's ridiculous! And Whitney is absolutely dreadful. Sorry OP!

GB54 · 08/02/2019 13:11

Alexa is best but you can’t have that and Alex. Anything else you like?

thatsmyspace · 08/02/2019 13:15

Whitney is a lovely name 💕

FaultInMyStars · 08/02/2019 13:29

I knew sIblings Lauren and Laurence. It's really weird. Alex and Alexa is just the same. Don't do it.
Also Alexa is the Amazon smart speaker (surprised if you are not aware of that?).

Lexi is cute but still very like Alex. Try saying them, imagine yourself calling them down for dinner in years to come - Al-lex-lex-i Hmm

This leaves Whitney which smacks so heavily of Whitney Houston that I don't like it (just as I wouldn't call my child Madonna) - but if you do, it's the best of the three.

BelindasRedPlasticHandcuffs · 08/02/2019 13:33

Choose completely new names. Seriously, both your children will thank you.
