What do you think of Monty? Short for Montague or Montgomery.

personally im not a big fan. it seems to me more of a name for a dog. sorry OP xx

CherryValance · 04/02/2019 18:35

My first thought is 'Uncle' from 'Withnail and I'

concernedforthefuture · 04/02/2019 18:37

Cat / Dog name. Sorry Blush

tammytoby · 04/02/2019 18:37

Love Montgomery!

Personally Im not a fan of the cutesy nicknames Monty, Archie, Alfie etc

Silversky70 · 04/02/2019 18:37

Dog name.

Puppywithattitude · 04/02/2019 18:37

I really love it. Montgomery is great.

sometimessometimes · 04/02/2019 18:38

I know a Monty! Love it.

daisypond · 04/02/2019 19:00

I like Montague with Monty for short. Montgomery is OK as well.

jedishelly1 · 04/02/2019 19:02

All I think of... sorry!

Monty
LoopyLoonyLuna · 04/02/2019 19:06

I think it’s lovely but would probably go with just Monty not have it short for another name.

SheLivesInHope · 04/02/2019 19:17

It's my son's middle name and I love it! Would have considered it for a first name but it didn't go with our surname. It's not short for anything here though, just Monty.

ChubsyMcChubFace · 04/02/2019 19:30

I immediately think Uncle Monty and / or Monty Burns.

But I still really like it! I wouldn’t put a longer name on the BC though personally. It’s one of those names which I actually think is better without a long version.

littlemeitslyn · 04/02/2019 19:44

Python

littlemeitslyn · 04/02/2019 19:44

Jedis 🤣

Emc23 · 04/02/2019 19:45

It’s the name of the little special needs cat from Denmark. His sister is called Molly

Neverunderfed · 04/02/2019 19:45

I liked it when pregnant, dh vetoed as 'pretentious' apparently

EnoughSnowAlready · 04/02/2019 19:46

I'm not a fan. It's a rather comedic name. It's great for a cat or dog but less so for a child.

Sophronia · 04/02/2019 19:49

Not keen.

namechange5575 · 04/02/2019 19:51

There's one locally, in the park his parents call him 'Mon'.

sheldonstwin · 04/02/2019 20:00

I think it's sweet.

Bumblebeesmum · 04/02/2019 20:24

Sounds like a dog or an exceptionally posh Eton kid. Are there no other ways to get the nickname - Montague & Montgomery are pretty out there

stellarfox · 04/02/2019 20:24

Thanks all! My partner likes it. I think it’s quite cute but understand the comments! I do know a dog with this name, but then so many dogs have human names now I wouldn’t say that bothers me. We will have to think about it!

OP posts:
Bumblebeesmum · 04/02/2019 20:27

Monroe Maximiliano Matteo

Bumblebeesmum · 04/02/2019 20:29

Loads of children have dogs names now it wouldn’t bother me either - I just think it might be better to give them options with the full name version - but that’s just my opinion & you’ll never get any name liked by everyone

BowBeau · 04/02/2019 20:38

I love Montague and I’m a huge fan of Monty Don! If I’d been able to choose DS’s name I’d have picked Monty.
