For a French/British baby... I've asked about one or two specific names on the forum before, but things seem to be getting more, rather than less, complicated as due date approaches!

Alice
Charlotte (nn Lottie)
Clémence (nn Clemmie)
Clara
Inès
Rosalie/Rosaline (nn Rosie - bit reticent as DD middle name is Rose)

Thank you!

I love Alice, Charlotte and Clara

SleepWarrior · 31/01/2019 03:14

Love Inès, Clara and Charlotte. Others are all fine but not favourites.

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 31/01/2019 03:23

I like Clara, Rosaline and Alice are ok but better as a middle name, dislike the others

Astronica · 31/01/2019 03:38

The only one of those I dislike is Rosalie/Rosaline though I do love Rosie. I would stick to Rose/Rosie. Rosalie is very frilly and would only suit a few people I feel.

The others on your list are all quite lovely. My favourite is Clemence (sorry can't do accents on my keyboard).

rainbowstardrops · 31/01/2019 05:08

I like Clemence. Alice is ok. Not so keen on the others.

MollyHuaCha · 31/01/2019 05:49

Alice - lovely
Charlotte (nn Lottie) - lovely
Clémence (nn Clemmie) - no
Clara - beautiful
Inès - my favourite
Rosalie/Rosaline - ok, but no because you already have a Rose

moredoll · 31/01/2019 05:54

Ines
Rosalie
(One of Prince George's middle names is Louis so you won't be the first to reuse a mn)

Stringofpearls · 31/01/2019 06:10

Alice, Charlotte and Rosalie are lovely. Not sure about Clara and the only Clemence I know is a boy.

Peachbubble · 31/01/2019 06:36

Lovely list, so it's hard to choose just one, but I'd go with Charlotte.

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 31/01/2019 06:39

Clara is your most international one, in terms of pronunciation, and a beautiful name, one of my favourites. I'm really liking Clémence and Inès (the former more than the latter). Alice and Charlotte will be pronounced surpriringly differently in UK/France and are lovely names but quite ubiquitous these days. Not at all keen on Rosalie - it's one of those zeitgeisty Elsie/Evelyn/Eliza names that is having a moment but people still think is unusual.

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 31/01/2019 06:41

Hmm, now Rosaline somehow appeals to me more than Rosalie, and I think would work better in both languages. You'd still have the -lyne or -leen issue, though.

Lydia55y · 31/01/2019 06:45

Alice is my favourite

starkid · 31/01/2019 09:35

What a lovely list! I like all of them except Ines.

My favourites are Alice, Charlotte and Clara :)

Butterfly84 · 31/01/2019 10:15

My favourite by far is Clara.

Alice is very wet and Charlotte is just dull.

GB54 · 31/01/2019 11:38

I like Clara the best.

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 31/01/2019 11:40

ines and clemence, others are super dull. UK has reached it's quota on charlottes. oversued boring name....

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 31/01/2019 11:41

They are all nice but I think Clara will work best across both nationalities

thatsmyspace · 31/01/2019 11:41

Rosalie/ Rosaline are beautiful and love the nn rosie

LaurieMarlow · 31/01/2019 11:44

I LOVE Clara and also like Charlotte/Lottie.

Alice is a very solid middle name, but I wouldn't choose it for a first. I'm not so keen on the rest.

MikeUniformMike · 31/01/2019 11:56

Alice - great if you don't mind the Aleece pronunciation by French friends and relatives.
Charlotte (nn Lottie) - brilliant as it's the same
Clémence (nn Clemmie) - no
Clara - no
Inès - yes, but is French rather than both
Rosalie/Rosaline (nn Rosie - bit reticent as DD middle name is Rose) - not sure

Shadow1234 · 31/01/2019 13:56

Clara is a lovely name, and best one on your list

RiverTam · 31/01/2019 13:59

Clemence and Rosalie. Wouldn't bother with a NN for Rosalie. Or Clemency, which I wouldn't NN either.

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 31/01/2019 14:02

Definitely Clara

Littleloafofbread · 31/01/2019 14:45

I don't think I'm closer to making a decision but at least it would seem like none of them are absolutely hideous so that's reassuring. Interesting to see how popular Clara is - I think it's very pretty but I still think of Doc Brown's girlfriend every time I hear it!

Your short list is almost identical to our shortlist (we had Alice, Rosalie, Clementine, Clara and Charlotte).

We would have gone for Clara if it hadn't rhymed so much with our surname.

If you're interested the other names on our shortlist were: Harriet, Stella and Noelle.
