I just hate it but he's adamant. Can anyone think of something along these lines I might be able to like more than Bobby?

Not wanting to state the bleeding obvious, but have you considered Robert?

GroggyLegs · 30/01/2019 11:43

Tommy
Robbie
Billy
Sandy
Sonny
Charlie
Ronnie

Scandaloso · 30/01/2019 11:43

If one parent hates a name the name should be taken off the table.

Robert/Rob/Robbie
Thomas/Tom/Tommy
Harry
James/Jamie/Jimmy
Benjamin/Ben
Michael/Mikey
Zachary/Zac
Edward/Eddie
Theodore/Theo
John/Johnny
Nicholas/Nick/Nicky

BouleBaker · 30/01/2019 11:45

Each parent should be able to veto any name. It needs to be a name you can both stand!!!!

WrapAndRoll · 30/01/2019 12:00

Archie
Toby
Blake
Sidney
Robbie
Vinnie
Zachary
Danny
Barnaby/Barney
Robin
Anthony
Lenny
Nicky
Danby
Jacob
Freddie
Harry
Corey
Jonny
Bertie

I like Robbie but Bobby is a bit babyish. Didn't do Bobby Robson or Bobby Moore any harm.
I managed to type Bobby as Booby in my first sentence - could that put him off?

Tolstoyina · 30/01/2019 12:56

You hate it. That should be enough. Move on and find a different name.

Both parents get a veto.

HoratioNightboy · 30/01/2019 12:56

Ha! I have a friend named Bobby and do this all the time, as does his wife. I don't even bother correcting the typo any more (although I did for this post). He's never said it is annoying, but he is a very polite gentleman.

Robbie is the closest better alternative, I think.

Peachbubble · 30/01/2019 12:58

Robert or Robbie - yes
Bobby - no

planespotting · 30/01/2019 13:08

Robert lovely
Bobbie? Nope.

Lovelyflowerstoday · 30/01/2019 13:09

Bobby Ewing

GummyGoddess · 30/01/2019 13:11

Bob the baby does sound a bit strange, and people always shorten names so you know he'll be called Bob.

What names do you like?

MorningsEleven · 30/01/2019 13:17

I love Bobby. But you're perfectly within your rights to veto a name you dislike.

Ngaio2 · 30/01/2019 13:18

Bobby/Bobbie is just awful.
Can you imagine him sitting in a waiting room asa young man and the receptionist calling for Bobby x ?

Longdistance · 30/01/2019 13:21

My cat was called Bobby.

As pp, when I was checking school reports for the children, the headmaster accidentally typed Booby for a lad called Bobby. It’s lucky I check the reports as that could’ve been quite embarrassing.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 30/01/2019 13:22

Ds wanted his db to be Bobby - after his friend's ddog!!. I had a great uncle Bob so not dissing the name but it's a no from me!!

CloserIAm2Fine · 30/01/2019 13:46

I’m not a fan of bobby either

I wouldn’t use Robert in your situation (although I quite like it) as DH May well end up using Bobby as the nickname which would drive you mad

Freddie sprang immediately to mind as having the same feel.

Do you like other nickname type names like Freddie, Frankie, Alfie etc? Or what names do you love? Does DH like those?

CloserIAm2Fine · 30/01/2019 13:47

Also when I read PP’s post about baby Bob I can’t help but hear it in Blackadder’s voice which makes me chuckle but not really what I want from a name!

Greensleeves · 30/01/2019 13:47

I like Bobby but I couldn't live with Bob, which is probably how it would end up.

daisypond · 30/01/2019 13:57

How do you feel about boys' names ending in a Y or IE in general? They are often the more "childish" form of another name. Are you OK with those names in general or is it just Bobby you don't like?

NameAdvicePlease · 30/01/2019 14:20

Thank you to whoever mentioned Bobby Moore. I'd never heard of him. That's our bloody surname. Now I know why he likes it so much!!! Idiot. Not a chance now!

daisypond · 30/01/2019 14:23

Oh, dear. It sounds like he's been having a little joke with you. Bobby Moore is pretty much the most well-known English footballer ever!

GreenDinosaur · 30/01/2019 14:23

We have a Bobby down the road, he's about 2. Can't say it's my taste but it's not weird or awful.

However, if you don't like it then it's no good.

How about another name that shortens into something similar like
Billy
Reggie
Andy
Benny
Tommy etc?

GreenDinosaur · 30/01/2019 14:25

Grin Yeah, he's just taking the piss, sorry OP!

PerverseConverse · 30/01/2019 15:58

Chavtastic! Rhymes with jobby which was what we used to called poo in our house when I was little. It suits a baby, sort of, but then becomes unfortunate imo. So many beautiful names out there to choose from.
