Scottish boys names that aren't every second kid

Argh, I'm stuck and looking for some inspiration please.

I have a DS called Harris, 2 years after we named him there is a Harris every where I turn. Just found out we are having a DS2. I had my heart set on Struan but they are popping up all over the place.

We are toying over Angus and Innes but not really loving either as much.

Any thoughts? Smile

Is Torin Scottish?

3out · 30/01/2019 20:06

(I do like it though)

slinkysaluki · 30/01/2019 20:29

Gray ?

beanaseireann · 30/01/2019 20:34

I love Rory

BrexitBingoGenerator · 30/01/2019 20:36

I have a Rory- I still love that name beyond words.

My other ones that were vetoed were:

Mungo
Fergus
Gregor
Artair
Alasdhair (not sure if that’s quite the right spelling but I did love that it had a ‘h’ in it!

Urbanvoltaire · 30/01/2019 20:49

Lewis
Arran
Scott
Andrew
Craig
Angus
Gregor
Lachlan

lazymare · 30/01/2019 20:52

Hmm. My kids have a v Scottish surname so we avoided Scottish first names.

lazymare · 30/01/2019 20:53

Oops posted too soon. I like Fergus.

3out · 30/01/2019 21:03

Minto?

IsabelleSE19 · 30/01/2019 21:13

Cameron
Lennox
Keir

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 30/01/2019 21:17

My top choice would be Keir, followed closely by Atholl. I knew both when I was at school and they were both really kind boys.

Mind you, there was also a Titus and a Gulliver in my Scottish state school class!

runninginheelsisnotfun · 30/01/2019 21:31

Titus Brodie - now there is a name 😂

So many good suggestions thank you. We have such a big family and it's mostly boys so all the 'good' ones have been pinched!

Reckon I have a few now to choose from and my list has went from 2 to 5 - Thank you!!

Hmm Atholl Brodie wouldn't really work after all. There's a dish called Atholl Brose, it would be quite confusing!

Divgirl2 · 30/01/2019 21:33

Fraser is a great name and I haven't met a single one this year (unlike Finn - I've met about 11 now). I love Struan, it was on my shortlist (went with Ruauridh in the end).
I think you've got a similar issue to me where any first names that are also surnames (eg Cameron) sound like a solicitors firm when put with your surname because your surname is also a first name - if that makes sense.
Murdo/Murdoch is a beautiful name, it sounds very strong. You could imagine Murdo Brodie as one of the Scotland rugby team.

Yutes · 30/01/2019 21:37

I like Innes or Menzie (pronounced Mingus). I know lots of little boys named Struan.

Oh. Sorley is nice but maybe to “y”

Glad you seem sorted though OP

runninginheelsisnotfun · 30/01/2019 21:48

@Divgirl2 i love Fraser! But I have 2 on my side and one on DH's 🙈

Murdo isn't common here and my previous neighbour has a son called Murdo who is now 4. They moved to the next village so we only see them couple times a year. I just worry they will think we pinched their name as he is the only one for miles. I know no one owns a name but I would feel awful I think because he is the only one. Love it though, I want to use it but my morals and people pleasing are getting in the way

Sorley. Munro.

midsomermurderess · 30/01/2019 22:05

Or Colm. That's not that widely used.

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/01/2019 22:12

Logan?

singingismypassion · 30/01/2019 22:35

Sholto
Lachlan
Douglass

BlewGoose · 30/01/2019 22:50

Logan?

lazymare · 30/01/2019 22:52

Love Murdo. It's my DS's middle name.

Scattyscot · 30/01/2019 23:03

I like Innes for a boy and is Scottish

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 30/01/2019 23:09

Angus and Hamish are my absolute favourite boys names, but Struan is a close third! Go with your heart. Seriously. Who cares about what other people name their kids!

Babdoc · 30/01/2019 23:09

Why not just Scott? What could be more Scottish?!
