Which name?

We've come up with a bit of a short list of baby names for our boy who is due in around 3-4 weeks. Would love to know which are people's favourites?

Understand they may not be to everyone's taste, and that's absolutely fine, more interested in which people like?

Ernest (Ernie)
Douglas (Dougie)
Edward (Eddie/Ed/Ted/Teddy)
Freddie
Barney
George (very popular?)

Thanks everyone. Middle name is likely to be James (however I don't think this goes with George?)

Edward James or Freddie James for me. I think James sounds ok with Joseph too, but I agree with you about George. It doesn't quite flow!

ApolloandDaphne · 25/01/2019 11:30

Douglas, Edward and Joseph are all nice. I don't like the others.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/01/2019 11:32

Dougie

MikeUniformMike · 25/01/2019 11:35

Ernest (Ernie) - not keen
Douglas (Dougie) - like
Edward (Eddie/Ed/Ted/Teddy) - prefer Eddy as nn but like
Freddie - overused
Barney - ok
George (very popular?) - great but not with James. James George works.

Which name sounds best with the surname?

MikeUniformMike · 25/01/2019 11:38

I like Joseph too.

YahBasic · 25/01/2019 11:38

Your list is very similar to my SIL list.
They ended up going with Alfred on the BC but he has always been Freddy.

Freddie James works well.

They also had Stanley, Otis, Percy and Gordon on their list - I think they took inspiration from Thomas the Tank Engine!

Ernest/Ernie - really like
Douglas/Dougie - really like
Edward - not keen, it's starting to get overused
Freddie - far too faddy at the minute
Barney - like
George - a classic name. I like

Edward - I have a 14yr old one and still love his name, he gets Ed, Eddy or Edward

Like Douglas too but would feel I needed a Scottish connection

tammytoby · 25/01/2019 12:08

Edward, George and Frederick are very popular and a little dull.

I like Douglas and Barnaby/Barney!
