Etienne alternative

I’ve loved Étienne since I met a little girl with the name a few years ago.

My second dd is due imminently so it was on my short list until I looked it up and it turns out it’s not the beautiful, slightly unusual but still prounouncable name I always thought it was, but in fact is French for Stephen Grin

Any other suggestions? Looking for 2/3 syllables, prefer something classic and timeless. I also love lots of slightly unusual nature names (Celeste, Aurora) but wouldn’t be brave enough to use them.

Go!

Aurelia?
Agathe?

Kiwiinkits · 23/01/2019 23:10

Why not Celeste? It's hardly out there?! If you like it, go for it!

BikeRunSki · 23/01/2019 23:12

Etienne is a boys’ name. It is the French equivalent of Stephen. It may look feminine, but it really isn’t.

FogCutter · 23/01/2019 23:12

Etta?

Ribbonsonabox · 23/01/2019 23:13

Celeste is a gorgeous name and not at all 'out there'! It's a very traditional name! It was in our top three for a girl.

mussie · 23/01/2019 23:15

@BikeRunSki clearly did not read the OP at all

DramaAlpaca · 23/01/2019 23:17

Celeste is lovely.

Etienne's most definitely a male name.

The Irish girls' name Etain is similar-ish. I think it has a fada (accent) but can't do it on my tablet.

I know a little girl called Etienne! I thought at the time it was odd.

BlankTimes · 23/01/2019 23:46

Elianne or Eliane, check French spelling as I'm not sure.

Pronounced Ell ee anne with the strongest syllable being the last, so not too unlike Etienne.
