Anna and ....

Just found out that we're having a girl. We were convinced it was a boy and only really thought of boy's names (on no evidence whatsoever). Any suggestions for a name. DD is Anna. We have reluctantly decided against Elsa.

I think Eleanor is a great option. Hold on to it and allow time for it to grow on DH. I'm not so keen on Elise - it doesn't sound strong to me. Claire is nice and works well.

Reading your messages OP though it does seem like your heart is kind of still with Eleanor? I think Anna & Eleanor go lovely together. If so maybe have a chat with OH explain how much you like it and see why/how much he dislikes the name whether it could grow on him?

ladycarlotta · 22/01/2019 11:50

Eleanor is lovely but I suppose no good if your partner is dead against it. It's not worth it. Elise is sweet too.

Personally I've always thought Anna and Kate go really well together.

Evanna13 · 22/01/2019 17:52

Names I like with Anna are

Kate
Clara
Eleanor
Maeve
Lucy

Butterfly84 · 22/01/2019 18:11

I'm not a fan of Elise, Claire or Eleanor (sorry). Eleanor and Elise are very wet. And Claire is just stuck in the 70s.

Other suggestions:
Georgia/Georgina
Beatrice
Louise
Sophia
Edith

Judith?

Haven't come across one of those for a long time.

ThriveTalking · 22/01/2019 21:38

The good thing about Eleanor for you is that living in Ireland the pronunciation is not ambiguous like it is in England.
In Ireland I think I'm right in saying it's always Ell-Enn-Or and very different to Elena etc.

You said Kate is out. How about Juliet or Grace?

I take it you don't want anything Irish? I agree with the pp who thought Maeve was nice with Anna. Or Roise. But both are fairly popular I think (maybe that's good though, as Anna isn't obscure either). Second same sex siblings - so many things to consider!

mummeeee · 22/01/2019 21:40

I have an Anna and then 2 boys. If either had been a girl they would have been Miriam nn Mim

Frankthebank · 22/01/2019 21:43

We're not against Irish names in themselves but so many are crazy to spell and pronounce if she goes abroad. We'd prefer for her to go to a Starbucks in New York and the name on the cup is close enough to her actual name. You're right about the pronunciation of Eleanor here. I didn't realise there was another waySmile.

I think Lucy works well.

Aurelia

lottiegarbanzo · 24/01/2019 09:45

Nell

I heard it the other day and thought of this thread. I'd say Tess and Nell are similar to Anna in quite a British (not sure about Irish?) way - strong, straightforward, timeless and pretty, without being cutesy.

Whereas my other Anna connection is Russian, so Lara, Kitty, Tanya.

Nell is usually short for something, what, Petronella? Or possibly Eleanor!

daisypond · 24/01/2019 10:03

How about Helen instead of Ellen? I don't think Ellen (while v nice) is as classic as Anna - there's a slight mismatch.

lottiegarbanzo · 24/01/2019 10:15

Or Helena -> Lena or Nella

I admit I too feel Ellen is quite different in feel and less classic than Anna.

ladycarlotta · 24/01/2019 10:17

Nell can be short for Eleanor, Ellen or Helen/a. Or probably most names with an 'ell' in, could credibly work for Elizabeth. I do know a Nell who is just Nell though.

Evanna13 · 24/01/2019 10:24

Do you like Leah?
