Just found out that we're having a girl. We were convinced it was a boy and only really thought of boy's names (on no evidence whatsoever). Any suggestions for a name. DD is Anna. We have reluctantly decided against Elsa.

Anna and Catherine

Anna and Rosa
Anna and Laura
Anna and Maria
Anna and Louisa
Anna and Grace

I adore Elise but I think I do kind of see what you mean about them having slightly different feels.

And I met a baby Claire recently and loved that.
Clara is the more obvious match with Anna (And Claire with Anne?) but I do like Claire.

Is Emma an option?
Grace is good but very popular I think.

Anna and Ellen would be lovely.

ThriveTalking · 21/01/2019 21:22

Ellen is great. I noticed that your two suggestions of Elise and Claire didn't end in a -a, like Anna does and a lot of girls' names do. I wondered if you maybe prefer that?
Personally I decided I didn't want my second daughter to have a name ending in -a like my DD1 does. It narrowed the field a lot-

Ideas:
Kate (Catherine)
Juliet
Miriam

But I think Ellen is the best.

Frankthebank · 21/01/2019 22:43

Spot on Thrive. I'd prefer to steer clear of names ending in A. And probably beginning in A too but that's not as important.

I like Kate but there's already one in the family.

I say we bring back Laura!

Frankthebank · 21/01/2019 22:48

Laura is definitely out. Friends wanted Anna or Laura and specifically chose Laura so as not to have same name as DD who is very close in age. It'd be a bit much if we named dd2 Laura after that.

I'm so difficult. I'm shooting down every suggestion! Grin

Flora?

CandleConcerto · 21/01/2019 22:54

Freya? Frances?

CandleConcerto · 21/01/2019 22:54

Oh sorry no A endings...

Frankthebank · 21/01/2019 22:56

It looks like Ellen is starting to stick. It's the only one both DH and myself like.

Love Anna. It totally fails as it begins and ends with an A but I really like Alexandra, I find Alex is really strong and lovely for girls as abbreviation but there’s loads more for that name. Also a fan of Emma but it’s pretty similar to Anna. Wildcard: Piper?

custardlover · 21/01/2019 23:08

Marie
Colette
Catherine

ThriveTalking · 21/01/2019 23:32

Ellen certainly fits the bill and it's lovely.
(I like Elise too)
Lois any good?

ThriveTalking · 21/01/2019 23:34

Helen
Eleanor

SemperIdem · 21/01/2019 23:40

I think Elin is nicer than Ellen, though not dissimilar in sound.

Frankthebank · 22/01/2019 00:12

I like it but I think an Elin would spend her life telling people her name is not Ellen. It's not common here in Ireland.

OP posts:
SemperIdem · 22/01/2019 00:17

That’s fair enough, also I don’t think Ellen and Elin would sound very different at all in a lot (but obviously not all) Irish accents. Whereas in Wales, Elin and Ellen do sound different, to my Welsh ears.
