I know it's two late to change my daughters name, and this is a pretty pointless post, but it will just confirm what I think people feel about my daughters name or not. DH named her.

I was very ill all throughout my pregnancy and after birth. DD didn't have a name for 4 weeks after birth, it was nearing the time to register her. I said that DH could name her. I was expecting him to let me know what he's decided before he registered her so I can give it the thumbs up or not. I wasn't going to be extremely picky, time wasn't on our side.

A few days later he came home and said that he registered DD. I asked what name he picked and he has picked Mackenzie-May (not actual spelling). I could write a whole page on how I felt about him registering her without even letting me know there was an appointment, or even letting me know her name! But this isn't a rant I was just wondering everyone's views on her name. Not something I would of gone for imo, but i now can't imagine her not being Mackenzie.

It's not too late to change it

horsesheep · 15/01/2019 21:36

I don't like calling her by her full first name because a) Mackenzie-may is a mouthful and a half and b) I hate the trend of adding may onto the end of every girls first name Blush

@NoArmaniNoPunani she's 17 months old this month

Didn't know you could register a baby without the mother.

SimplyPut · 15/01/2019 21:37

Oh dear. Would you consider changing it?

MrsApplepants · 15/01/2019 21:38

It’s not too late to change it

Couldn't you just call her by a nick name? Like Macey?

Grannyannex · 15/01/2019 21:39

Deed poll if unhappy

frazzledasarock · 15/01/2019 21:39

If married the husband can register the child’s name.

Don’t you have a time frame in which you can go and get the name changed tho?

sunshineandshowers21 · 15/01/2019 21:40

to be brutally honest i find mackenzie to be quite a ‘chavvy’ name - but that might just be because the few mackenzies i know are the offspring of raging chavs. and although i think may is lovely, every second girl around here either has it as a middle name or as a hyphenated first name.

Ellieboolou27 · 15/01/2019 21:40

Congratulations on your baby op.
It’s not my cup of tea - it will sound very dated in a few years, there are a lot of .......mai’s / mays around at the moment.
However if you like the name that is all that counts

missmouse101 · 15/01/2019 21:40

It's sweet! Agree with you about the May bit. Nicer on its own. Kenzi is lovely as a nn too.

Fusioluxe · 15/01/2019 21:41

Erja, Either parent can register the birth on their own.

horsesheep · 15/01/2019 21:41

@erja you can when you're married

@SimplyPut I want to but she's almost 17 months old so I see no point unless it's really as bad as feared Blush.

Mackenzie is fine. I’m not so keen on hyphenated names, but it’s okay.

Redcrayonisthebest · 15/01/2019 21:42

I like either name on their own, together well double barrelled aren't my taste to say the least. I'd shorten to something like Maisie.

MamaDane · 15/01/2019 21:42

Hideous name honestly. Sounds American and low class.

Just May would have been lovely (imo).

horsesheep · 15/01/2019 21:42

Phew, there's a lot better reactions then expected!

Girlundercover · 15/01/2019 21:43

I don’t normally like surnames as first names but I like it-without the May.
I came across the name Mackenzie the other day reading something and I thought mmm I like that.

Quite unusual for him not to have run it past you though.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 15/01/2019 21:44

2 'M' names didn't do Eminem any harm!!
Mackenzie is nice.
I knew 3 dsis's called Mackenzie, Milan and Maddison. Lovely girls. Not chavvy at all!

GColdtimer · 15/01/2019 21:47

Can you not just stop the hyphen and have Mckenzie as her first name and may as her second.

But in all honesty if you don't like it, I would change it. I really wish I'd given dd1 a different middle name as I rushed it (happy with her first name) and it bugs me every time I have to write it out in full. If it was her first name it would be awful.

Dontrocktheboat · 15/01/2019 21:48

Mackenzie is not to my taste but much better than Mackenzie-May. I think JK Rowling has a daughter called Mackenzie...which might mitigate against the chav comments. It sounds quite American.

GColdtimer · 15/01/2019 21:48

Dad has a friend Mackenzie Nn kenzie which I quite like.

ree348 · 15/01/2019 21:50

I like it ! It's different!
