Blane
My DH and I like the name for our second son. It is a catholic saints name. Just worried that it is a bit too bonkers!!

Do you want it pronounced Blaine? Spelled like this I'm saying it like Bl-anne like the name Anne.

hoki · 13/01/2019 17:00

I think it's cool. Prefer the spelling with the 'i' in it.

Screamqueenz · 13/01/2019 17:01

I'd have pronounced it Bl-ain, I don't think it's that "out there", I like it.

JaiNotJay · 13/01/2019 17:02

I don't think it's bonkers at all! It's not a name that I've heard before bit I like it. I don't see any issue with the pronunciation.

ElizabethMainwaring · 13/01/2019 17:03

David Blaine. Dunblaine. I'm not judging, that's just what immediately came to mind. Personally, I don't like it. Cross between blind and blame and lame. No, not nice.

RatRolyPoly · 13/01/2019 17:28

I haven't come across it as a name but I like it! Doesn't feel "out there", but I do prefer it with an "i" in.

YoMommasMomma · 13/01/2019 17:36

That's really interesting about the 'i' thank you. Mixed responses about how crazy it is. we are struggling to name child number 2, haven't had the love feelings about a name just yet in the way that we did about our first sons name!

Not bonkers at all, and quite refreshing in a sea of Alfie’s.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 13/01/2019 17:50

Definitely needs the I and the e

NoTeaNoShadeNoPinkLemonade · 13/01/2019 18:14

went to school with a blaine cant say anyone found it unusual, it just suited him x

TatianaLarina · 13/01/2019 18:37

“Blane that’s not a name it’s a major appliance”.

Gillyhicks · 13/01/2019 18:42

@tatianalarina I came here to say that too! Haha

combatbarbie · 13/01/2019 18:49

I like it, prefer the spelling with the I but I automatically pronounced as in cane

Dunblane doesn't have an I in it Wink

MikeUniformMike · 13/01/2019 18:54

My first thought was Dunblane.

Inktank · 13/01/2019 19:24

David Blaine.

WildCherryBlossom · 13/01/2019 19:29

Kurt's boyfriend in Glee, Blaine Anderson

How about Blaise? Another catholic saints name.

3boysandabump · 13/01/2019 20:04

There's a Blaine in one of my dc classes at school. He's 7. He's the only one I know of

DeRigueurMortis · 13/01/2019 20:12

I'm not one for unusual names but I actually really like this (in the sense it's a revivalist name iyswim).

Never encountered it before but I think it's lovely - especially the original spelling of Blane.

I don't like Blaine nearly as much - perhaps because it's not the original spelling and also sounds looks like a surname (and references David Blaine really).

erja · 13/01/2019 20:18

Also reminds me of Glee and is very American to me when I first hear it - but I think it's just not my style. Nothing bonkers about it though!

HotSauceCommittee · 13/01/2019 20:20

I like it.

TroysMammy · 13/01/2019 20:20

Jesse Ventura played a Blain in Predator.

TatianaLarina · 13/01/2019 20:36

Blaise is a horse’s name.
