Arabic Names

We're keeping the sex of our baby a surprise until s/he arrives. but I have my top 3 names for each gender. There are so many babies due by family or friends before our bubba so I haven't really told anyone my thoughts incase someone else takes a liking to it. Was just wondering on what you guys thought of the following Muslim Arabic names? I wont be offended if you don't like them.

We ere TTC for 18 months before I got my BFP and during the last 6 months of trying i continuous read certain chapters of the Quran and I made the intention that if i do fall pregnant, I will pick a name mentioned in those chapters and then I selected 2 additional names I liked.

Girs name
Huda, which means right guidance
Hidayah meaning guidance.
Soraya It means "The Pleiades" (a group of stars within The Constellation of Orion). Some Arabs simplify the meaning as "a very bright light".
Boys name

Laith- means lion. It also means brave
Yusuf meaning God increases
Zakariya meaning God has remembered

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I really love Soraya and Zakaraya. Second come Hidayah and Yusuf and then the other 2. Laith sounds too much like the piece of engineering equipment lathe.

If I had to pick....Soraya and Zakariya.

Though I think there are nicer Arabic Quranic girls names.

Layla? Jenna? Tara?

Laith and Sureiya/Soraya would be my favourites. If you like the H sound what about Khadijah (realise as the prophet Mohammed's wife it's not in the Quran but still a strong Islamic name) or Hamza (uncle of the prophet Mohammed).

Thanks guys. Hubby is so undecided for the female name, as am I but he also loves Zakariyha and Yousuf for a boy

@WonderfullySunnny I love that name but my family are very uptight about a child having a name that is already in the family. I'm not one to care and if it was someone who wasnt a first cousin then I would still take it but to avoid the 1564654 conversations of 'Oh but we already have a khadijah'

How is Laith pronounced? I like the look of it but I’m sorry I’m not familiar with it

Love Zakarihya, bit meh on Yusuf and Laithe reminds me of machinery (a lathe).

I like Huda, but it will remind people of the beauty brand - so you'd need to think about whether that would bother you. Love Soraya, but I've heard people say before that it sounds like psoriasis and that puts me off it. Not mad about the other one.

@RavenWings- I actually use only Huda beauty products lol so I knew people would assume that if I chose Huda, but so far if anyone has mentioned Huda Beauty, I've just remonded them of where in the Quran it is and they are usually suprised

Yusuf and Laith seem to be quite popular at the moment. I know a few little Yusufs and have taught loads of them. I’ve heard of a few little Laiths being born and I knew one but I’ve never taught one. I’ve never met a Zakariya but my friend considered it for her baby. I think Zakariya is my favourite - I like the shortening Zak/Zaki and know someone who uses Zaka which I think is really cool!

I knew a little Zakariah, think I prefer that spelling though it means the pronunciation is ambiguous (ree/rye).

Soraya is gorgeous and I love Yusuf, every child I've met called Yusuf has been lovely.

Love Soraya. Hate Huda. I’m trying to figure out why the word “Huda” brings up a visual of something big, clunky and unpleasant... like Jaba the Hut type of character.
Unfortunately all I’m getting on google is the bloody kardashian wanna be and her make up.

@purpleelk haha, thank you for the decriptions, Huda Khattan is anything but a Kardashian wanna be, she was a beauty blogger (still is) an became known world wide and over the past few years she's released her own make up line which has done very very well.

Soraya! It's my daughters middle name. I prefer it pronounced So-ray-ah rather than So-rye-ah (even if the second way is the correct way) which is why it's not her first name. We found out her Dad is part Persian whilst I was pregnant and she just so happened to be born a taurus (part of the pleiades)

I don't think the pleiades are within Orion by the way! It's next to Orion but within the taurus constellation xx

Am married to an Iraqi, and he is a Laith. Great name. Know a few Laith's. All from mixed marriages to Brits, all born in Iraq in the mid 60's. Still live in the Middle East. It's not a popular name out here. Huda is a very popular name. I'm not keen on it at all.
