We're keeping the sex of our baby a surprise until s/he arrives. but I have my top 3 names for each gender. There are so many babies due by family or friends before our bubba so I haven't really told anyone my thoughts incase someone else takes a liking to it. Was just wondering on what you guys thought of the following Muslim Arabic names? I wont be offended if you don't like them.

We ere TTC for 18 months before I got my BFP and during the last 6 months of trying i continuous read certain chapters of the Quran and I made the intention that if i do fall pregnant, I will pick a name mentioned in those chapters and then I selected 2 additional names I liked.

Girs name
Huda, which means right guidance
Hidayah meaning guidance.
Soraya It means "The Pleiades" (a group of stars within The Constellation of Orion). Some Arabs simplify the meaning as "a very bright light".
Boys name

Laith- means lion. It also means brave
Yusuf meaning God increases
Zakariya meaning God has remembered

@Cosmoa to be honest with you, I have no clue, you're probably right, I struggled to find the meaning for that name and this was the first one I found although I just looked again and found 'Soraya-Meaning, gem or 'princess' xx

Soraya and Zakariya (sorry if I've spent wrong, I can't see the spellings on the reply screen) are lovely names.

Springmummy19 · 07/01/2019 13:29

Thank you @TokenGinger. no need to say sorry. you spelt them correct. x

Love Soraya but thought it was a Persian name rather than Arab? Had a lot of Arab friends growing up, the girls were called Nada, Manar, Hind, Eman, Reem etc. Always loved Hind but forgot its meaning? Manar is beacon or lighthouse I think.

I have Arabic family. My grandmother is named Omayma and it’s a beautiful name x

Cosmoa · 07/01/2019 13:55

@Springmummy19 lol I only know because I looked into it loads whilst pregnant (my daughter is only 8 months so it was farrly recent when I read this)

I also love Zakariya by the way 😍

Cosmoa · 07/01/2019 13:57

@marmaladecats it is Persian (which is why we chose it) , but Persia is no more and it's now very popular in Iran, which is of course an Arabic nation.

BlackPrism · 07/01/2019 14:02

I like all except Huda because it's a makeup brand

mariacalypso · 07/01/2019 23:15

Iran is not an Arabic nation. There is a minority of Arabs who live there but that’s it. As for ‘Persia is no more’, Persian is an ethnicity. My husband is Persian and I’m pretty sure he still exists Hmm

Cosmoa · 07/01/2019 23:30

Forgive me for mistaking the fact Iran isn't an Arab nation! I did think that I should have double checked that after writing it...

And I of course was not trying to insinuate that Persian ethnicity isn't a thing. My daughter is of Persian liniage.

Definitely Soraya. I also love Fatima, if you haven't considered it.

Zakariyah is my favourite of the boys names.

Ahyan, Rashid, Reza, Karim, Khalil

And Salma. I really love this name. There's a girl in DD's class named Salma and she's like a living, laughing lightbulb! She just brightens up every space she walks into!

Lemurville · 27/01/2019 18:44

I like the sound of Hidayah and also would go with Zakariya. Best wishes on the rest of your pregnancy x

Shadow1234 · 27/01/2019 19:50

Definitely Soraya - it's a beautiful name!
Zakariah would be my choice from the boys list

PBobs · 28/01/2019 05:11

I really like the name Laith - but then I haven't lived in the UK for years so don't make the hardware association.
