What are the most popular girls names being used at private schools at the moment?

In my days it was Elizabeth’s and Katrina’s.
What are they now?

OP posts:

Depends on the private school!

Some are full of Hatties, Arabellas and Imogens.

Others are full of:
Chantelle, Rosa, and Tia’s

Now I think about it:
Lucy Emily India Sophia Florence
Are probably in all of them 😂

All lovely names and most of them are also found in state schools.

RuthW · 01/01/2019 09:50

People I know at private school are Emily x 2, Olivia, Molly, George, William so usual top ten names.

IdaBWells · 01/01/2019 16:25

Grace, Gabriella, Raphaela, Raven, Georgina, Abigail, Leila, Addie, Alivia, Hana.

TatianaLarina · 01/01/2019 16:37

Depends where the school is.

Phoebe, Beatrice, Imogen, Freya, Ava, Emily, Sophie, Grace, Aurora, Isabella, Eleanor.

Lily, Ella and Olivia seem to have fallen downmarket.

itssquidstella · 01/01/2019 16:39

Mia and Maya.

Wolfiefan · 01/01/2019 16:41

You do know they don’t allow kids into private schools based on their names. What an odd thread. Confused

IdaBWells · 01/01/2019 16:50

Sorry just realised that the OP said most popular. In my eldest dds year it would be Grace by a very long way. There are literally 14 of them. They even have school photos captioned "a collection of Graces" when 6 are gathered together for some reason.

Hadehahaha · 01/01/2019 16:52

Lots of Isabella’s...

MariaNovella · 01/01/2019 16:54

First names are one of the main selection criteria at our DC’s school.

Wolfiefan · 01/01/2019 16:57

Really Maria? Must get astounding results then. Confused

SoupDragon · 01/01/2019 16:57

At least 50% of the names in DD's year are not of English origin. There seem to be very few duplicates.

BiggerBoat1 · 01/01/2019 16:59

In my days it was Elizabeth’s and Katrina’s.

Shame they didn't teach you how to use apostrophes at your private school,

Biscuitsneeded · 01/01/2019 17:00

There are a lot of Charlottes, Isabelles and Amelias where I teach. Nice names though.

tomhazard · 01/01/2019 17:03

The most popular girl name in the private school I work at is Matilda. Daisy and Florence are also very popular.

Malteasermover · 01/01/2019 17:06

@BiggerBoat1 You beat me to it. High five

catdoctor · 01/01/2019 23:40

Re apostrophe use; pleurals nouns don’t take one obviously but some writers will use one in nouns that aren’t normally pleural for clarity or for instance in ‘Mind your p’s and q’s’. This is acceptable grammar.

Timeandtune · 01/01/2019 23:44

Missing the point here but should it not be "plural"?

catdoctor · 01/01/2019 23:51

GrinXmas Hmm

wasthis · 02/01/2019 09:32

I would put 'Ps and Qs', 'p's and q's' looks bloody awful.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 02/01/2019 10:04

Here's some of the popular ones at a school my DH works with sometimes:

William
Henry
Thomas
Sebastian (there were several)
James
Edward

Isobelle
Franccesca
Catherine
Lily
Georgia

Jettycinth · 02/01/2019 13:18

My dd’s friendship group (in Surrey):

Eleanor, Elizabeth, Olivia, Rebecca, Beth, Florence, Emma

Jettycinth · 02/01/2019 13:19

Most common by far though is still Emily, though Ava is gaining on it
