Roux (French)- boy

I'm looking for thoughts on the name Roux ---pronounced row. My great uncle has this middle name and we are looking for something that shows our French Heritage.

Do people just think of roux sauce? Like it/hate it?

If I saw it written I’d think ‘as in the sauce?’ (I didn’t know it was a name) if I heard you say it (I thought it was Roo) I’d think ‘as in Kanga?’

It’s a precurser to white sauce and probably why it was your gu’s middle name. Use his first name or surname.

It's not pronounced row (either to rhyme with no or now), it's pronounced roo. And it would be a very weird choice for a boy. I think even in France it's a surname, not a first name.

There’s a boy called Roux in my DD’s school...it’s pronounced Roo though. I like it.
If you like the ‘row’ sound, why not have Rowan?

I have only ever heard it pronounced roo as well. Not keen on the row pronounciation tbh.

It's pronounced Roo (in French) and is a surname - possibly your relative's mother's maiden name? (That's a reasonably common naming habit tomstick that in the middle)

I've never come across it as a first name, and don't really take to it, sorry.

Row as in boat is pronounced different to row as in argument.

If there are different ways for the phonetic spelling you’ve not a hope with the original.

It is pronounced roo as others have said. I thought it was also the masculine term for a redhead (ginger)

Don't go for a name you mispronounce! Lifetime of corrections. Just go for the normal pronunciation.

Yep, sauce, then Michel and Michel Jr.

And it’s definitely pronounced roo. Every time someone asks his name he’ll then have to spell it. Not a good plan.

Definitely pronounced Roo. Lovely boy at my DD's school named Roux. Not a name I'd have thought of but he makes it a very cool name.
