What are people's thoughts? DP and I love it, but one friend said it's a bit precious.

I don't like Harriet, I find it very unfeminine. Hattie is cute but sounds like a little hat..?

How about Henrietta or Helena?

ThanksItHasPockets · 06/12/2018 14:19

Love it.

ZebraKid71 · 06/12/2018 14:19

I love Harriet, I don't like Hattie though. I prefer Harri or Ettie.

Gobletoffire · 06/12/2018 14:21

Love Harriet, nn Hattie or Ettie xx

MissSueFlay · 06/12/2018 14:28

DD is a Harriet, we call her Hatty or Hats. I love the name obvs Grin
I had a schoolfriend called Harriet, we all called her Harry.
We met a Hattie on holiday, she was just Hattie not a Harriet. DD felt a bit sorry for her and her 'lack of options'!

Bloomburger · 06/12/2018 14:39

DD is Harriet. Insisted on Harriet till she was about 13 then became Harry.

Hattie always reminds me of Hattie Jakes and that's not too flattering.

AlletrixLeStrange · 06/12/2018 14:53

I know 2 Hattie's who's full name is Harriet.
I love Harriet (was one of my top 2 for this baby) but I don't like Hattie and that's what put me off using it as a first name

ernjas · 06/12/2018 14:56

Love it.

Phebes · 06/12/2018 14:58

I like it. Hetty is a bit funkier though, in my opinion.

gummibears · 06/12/2018 15:00

I wonder why a short easy to say name like Harriet needs to be shortened? And why this needs to be planned in advance? She may prefer to be known as Harriet, Harry or something else.

Chocolatecake12 · 06/12/2018 15:02

It’s always been my favourite girls name. Love it! Hattie or Hari as a nn.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 06/12/2018 15:14

I really like Harriet but prefer Harry as a nn to Hattie.

daisypond · 06/12/2018 15:30

I don't think it's precious at all. Harriet isn't my cup of tea as a name, but it's fine. I know two Hatties and both are short for Harriet.

Peachbubble · 06/12/2018 16:21

I like it.

MummyBearRose · 06/12/2018 16:24

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Hattie but HATE HATE HATE Harriet! I don't know why but ever since I was little I've always said I hated the name Harriet .. it's so British and I don't find it very pretty sounding or feminine.. but Hattie is absolutely gorgeous😍

AuntieUrsula · 06/12/2018 16:27

The Harriet we know goes by Hetty... both nice names.

sonniboo · 06/12/2018 16:34

I don't find Hariett feminine at al. It feels like it should be Harriette or Harrietta!

Cbeebiesrehab · 06/12/2018 20:08

Really like it. Like Hattie and Ettie as diminutives.

mondler · 06/12/2018 20:49

I love Harriet

Disfordarkchocolate · 06/12/2018 20:51

Lovely name

Avegemitesandwich · 06/12/2018 20:51

I used to hate it when I was younger and think it was too posh. However, I now know an adult Harriet/Hattie and she is totally cool and not posh and it has changed my mind - I think it's a great name for a child or adult.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/12/2018 20:51

I don’t like Hattie.

Quite like Harriet. Harri is a nicer nn.

DramaAlpaca · 06/12/2018 22:30

Love it.

Smile19 · 06/12/2018 23:07

Love Harriet. DD was very nearly called Harriet (nn Hallie - old English shortening). Lovely name. Was top of our list right before her birth!

RedDwarves · 07/12/2018 09:27

I love Hattie, but I really hate Harriet. Something about it is just so frumpy and unfeminine sounding.
