There is an article running today in the Daily Fail about a girl named Abcde - apparently it’s pronounced ‘ab-city’. Having worked with hundreds of children in my career, it’s not often I come across a name that is completely unique to me. So Mumsnetters, do any of you know an Abcde?

Moominfan · 29/11/2018 19:40

No I've come across a boy called hunter and another called kyson before

Fairylea · 29/11/2018 19:41

I read that article and I know this is going to sound horrible but seriously what was she thinking?! Awful, awful name. Poor child!

CarrieBlu · 29/11/2018 19:45

I agree Fairylea. I doubt it will become popular.

What was she thinking? Well, she wasn’t thinking about names for 9 months. Poor fucking kid, saddled with a shit name. I would’ve taken the piss too. She could have gone overboard and named her XYZ 🙄

HannahnotAgnes · 29/11/2018 19:48

It's a ridiculous name - worst I've ever heard. Not surprised the airline staff member found it hilarious - hope they're not disciplined too harshly!

Dlpdep · 29/11/2018 19:51

I am wondering what the child having epilepsy has anything to do with the story. Confused

CarrieBlu · 29/11/2018 20:06

I wondered that too!

That's ridiculous 🙈

I remember when the Teletubbies came out years ago and it was in the paper that some woman had called her baby LaLa 🙈😂 I think abcde might be worse lol

TurquoiseDress · 29/11/2018 22:34

I saw this article too Grin

utterly ridiculous name- poor child!

I guess the mum got her yoo-nique name Hmm

Cosmoa · 29/11/2018 22:46

Here is an article from 2014!

I saw it and couldn’t believe it; she’s a gorgeous little girl too and looks as if she’s should have a ‘pretty’ name like Evie, Maisie or Emily (well, any name really other than ABCDE...).

bluetongue · 30/11/2018 07:43

I thought this was a bit of an urban myth, like la-a Shock

Poor kid. Hopefully she has decent middle name she can use or changes it as soon as she can.

EmmaJR1 · 30/11/2018 07:50

I read this and just remembered how much thought and effort went in to deciding my children's names, it was exciting and enjoyable. It makes me think the parents weren't that bothered and couldn't be arsed to discuss it so just said "oh just call her ABCDE"

Poor girl

greathat · 30/11/2018 09:27

Not even unique. Some parents should just be told now

greathat · 30/11/2018 09:27

No not now. Damn inability to edit

Cosmoa · 30/11/2018 09:43

I don't think la-a is an urban myth yanno...

Soubriquet · 30/11/2018 09:44

I saw this article too

Whilst I think the name is stupid, I also think the worker was extremely unprofessional. Fair enough to laugh, but you do it in private. Not pointing at the child and laughing.

PeevedOfPortishead · 30/11/2018 09:45

moomin lots of Hunters in the far north of Scotland. Fewer perhaps within the M25.

Soubriquet · 30/11/2018 09:46

Not surprised the airline staff member found it hilarious - hope they're not disciplined too harshly!

Of course they should!!! It’s giving the company a bad name. You can take the piss in private not in front of the customer

GrumpyOlderBloke · 30/11/2018 09:54

Is her sister called Qwerty and brother Uiop?

French cousin Azerty?

MrDonut · 30/11/2018 09:58

I must admit I laughed at the idea that the parents were seemingly shocked and offended that someone was taking the piss out of the name.

I actually quite like XYZ. How about Querty?

twattymctwatterson · 30/11/2018 10:58

It's a ridiculous name but the airline worker should definitely be sacked. Publicly shaming a five year old is appalling

WomanOfTime · 30/11/2018 11:06

/Absidy/ isn't the worst made-up name I've heard. It sounds fine, as those sorts of names go. Spelling it Abcde is ridiculous.

DRE56322 · 30/11/2018 11:40

It sounds like she named her poor child and people might mishear it as Obesity.

TheWiseWomansFear · 30/11/2018 14:45

It's ab-si-dee, not ab-city.

Sounds vaguely African, though I don't know any.

@Moominfan Hunter is a common American boys name...
