William or Gabriel

Think we have narrowed it down to three two names for a boy. Would probably use whichever we don't use as a first, as a middle so choosing between William Gabriel or Gabriel William.

Both are lovely names, key difference is that William is very popular, and Gabriel is very rare..... which category do you want to be in?

MintyCedric · 26/11/2018 21:55

Do you mind the shorter versions of those names? If so I'd base your choice on that.

Absolutely love both names though.

Willy might be a source of amusement to his wee chums at primary school. As Gabriel he should be a shoo in for the archangel role in the school nativity!

guineapig1 · 26/11/2018 22:01

Both lovely. Whichever you choose will probably be shortened to Will or Gabe though!

Biscuitsneeded · 26/11/2018 22:02

I love both names but think William Gabriel flows better. And I know more small Gabriels (very in vogue) than I do small Williams (timeless, never particularly in or out of vogue).

DramaAlpaca · 26/11/2018 22:04

I think I prefer Gabriel William, Gabe for short.

E20mom · 26/11/2018 22:05

William

ernjas · 26/11/2018 22:10

Gabriel is a much better name to me!

Shadow1234 · 26/11/2018 22:13

Gabriel William

CocoLoco87 · 26/11/2018 22:18

Love Gabriel and Gabe for short

duckthisshit · 26/11/2018 22:20

Really love Gabriel it was one of my choices for my son but dh said no.

MadeForThis · 26/11/2018 22:24

Gabriel

Starryskiesinthesky · 26/11/2018 22:27

I view them as very different names. William as classic, safe, name whereas Gabriel more unusual and people will have mixed views on. I always think of Gabriel as quite a feminine name and am less keen on it although I am not overly into traditional names! No help really but wondering what kind of person you are = very traditional (William) or not so much (Gabriel)

Dmt80 · 26/11/2018 22:33

Gabriel is much nicer but I think that because it's my son's name.

dangerrabbit · 26/11/2018 22:35

William

Winterwonderland12 · 26/11/2018 22:50

The Willy sound would put me off William. Don't like Will either - Will is a verb and a will is a last wish.

I prefer Gabriel!

Winterwonderland12 · 26/11/2018 22:57

But maybe not Gabriel William as that may become Gay Willy Blush

mummypug · 26/11/2018 23:06

I find Gabriel a bit feminine. Much prefer William

Astronica · 27/11/2018 03:00

I much prefer William. As well as disliking Gabriel I dislike the short form Gabe.

IdaBWells · 27/11/2018 03:24

Our son is Gabriel known as Gabe and has never been called Gay as a nickname. He is very tall at 12 is 5' 10" and very athletic. I think of it as a very masculine name. I think of the actor Gabriel Byrne and Gabriel Oak the hero in "Far from the Madding Crowd" by Hardy.

I also love William! Both great choices IMO.

moredoll · 27/11/2018 03:38

Gabriel William

Polkasq · 27/11/2018 07:38

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 27/11/2018 07:47

Gabriel.
William is boring to me.

SugarThreat · 27/11/2018 07:56

Gabriel is my favourite boys name ever. There's a Gabriel in my daughters school too and he's just lovely, makes me like it even more

WaitrosePigeon · 27/11/2018 07:57

Love William. A different take is Willem?
