Thank you! Jogs Love your daughter’s name, gorgeous! Does she get mistaken for a Cecily?

Salome is unpopular, then... I think Apolline might be my fave (Polly!)

How would everyone say Ianthe?

Sorry for all the questions!

Eye-anth-ey

Apart from anything else a Salome will be called salami.

Cecile is lovely.

BertrandRussell · 22/11/2018 09:47

“I think Iseult is a bit pedestrian these days”

Only on Mumsnet would a name currently 4068th in the popularity tables and used 11 times since 2010 be pedestrian Grin

BigusBumus · 22/11/2018 10:01

Paloma is the nicest. I wore Paloma Picasso perfume throughout the 90s!

MarysInTheDyson · 22/11/2018 10:21

I read on here that the "ine" ending on names is considered very classy in France.

MarysInTheDyson · 22/11/2018 10:21

Oh i love Polly as nn for Apolline

keepingbees · 22/11/2018 10:28

I like Ianthe. My dd was nearly Xanthe and I always regret not using it

Maybe it's where I am, but I know a couple of kids named Iseult. They all turn into Izzy too, which there are definitely a million of!

dirtyandscusting · 22/11/2018 10:48

I massively regret not using cicely it's beautiful!!

TJsAunt · 22/11/2018 11:01

Apolline just sounds like Pauline with a funny accent...

Love Cicely/Cecily

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/11/2018 11:20

❤️ Apolline (Polly). Paloma is lovely, and I like Ianthe.
Dislike Cecily/Cicely, but like Cecelia (CeCe). Not Salome.

ManiaTas19 · 22/11/2018 11:24

I LOVE Paloma. I considered it and then someone told me it can be translated as "pigeon" and it put me off since, but I still think its beautiful.

I love Cicely but I'd go for sp Cecilie.

Messalena · 22/11/2018 11:25

Salome has been struck off.

I like Isolde but am put off by Izzy (I know tons of them)

I also quite like Antigone (Tiggy) but I’m thinking it’s most likely too too much... thoughts?

OP posts:
BertrandRussell · 22/11/2018 11:56

Would you really want to name your child after Antigone?

Pemba · 22/11/2018 13:31

Well Antigone was very brave and a role model! Although she had a horrible end. Exactly like many saints who children have been named after for hundreds of years. Like St Catherine of Alexandria who was tortured to death on a wheel or something horrible like that.

TatianaLarina · 22/11/2018 13:33

I do think Izzy is a massive downside to Iseult, it’s one of the reasons I decided against not it.

Winterwonderland12 · 22/11/2018 13:35

I like Cicely but prefer Cecily. Apolline is also very pretty!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 22/11/2018 13:57

I prefer Cecily to Cicely. Palominos gorgeous too.

RiverTam · 22/11/2018 13:59

it sounds like the cast list to a play about some upper class people down on their luck living in a crumbling stately home and eating beans on toast off the Crown Derby whilst coming up with wheezes to get some cash in. Like Topaz in I Capture the Castle.

Choccywoccyhooha · 22/11/2018 14:05

Ha ha Iseult, pedestrian! Brilliant! Grin

I would pronounced Ianthe as Eye-annth-ee.

DwangelaForever · 22/11/2018 14:17

Wtf have I stumbled into a middle class alternate universe. All of these names are horrid

TatianaLarina · 22/11/2018 14:20

What kind of names do you like Dwangela?

Winterwonderland12 · 22/11/2018 14:42

Dwangela, what is horrid about them Confused?

I think they're beautiful and interesting names.

RiverTam · 22/11/2018 14:47

I don't think they're horrid but they really do sound almost comedically uber-middle-class in a liberal lefty way. I'm sure they are secondaries in Islington and Notting Hill packed to the gills with girls with these kinds of names, all dropping their Hs and listening to grime.

By themselves they're fine, not to my taste but fine, but being hit with a whole swathe like that . . . Grin

ZebraKid71 · 22/11/2018 14:51

Ianthe is nice, not a fan of the others. I just don't find them to be nice sounding. Appolline would be my second choice.

I love Antigone though!
