Girls name to honour Father in Law

Both mine and my partners dad's names are Malcolm. My partners dad is very poorly and will pass away soon before meeting our daughter who is due in April - we are heartbroken.

We are leaning towards Seren/na for a first name (not a definite yet), and her surname will double barrelled with 4 syllables and starting with T. Can anyone think of a way of honouring both of our dads in our daughters middle name? We are stuck, and also, very aware its not the best name.

My dad was Malcolm too.

I'd go with Malcolm. It's a lastname as well as forename. So not odd as a middle name.

PinkFluffyFairy · 15/11/2018 06:09

What about just simply Mal (as it's a middle name)?

CountFosco · 15/11/2018 06:49

I'd go with Malcolm. It's a lastname as well as forename. So not odd as a middle name.

This, particularly if you have a Scottish link.

Sorry about your FIL Flowers I was going to say same as PP about getting him to choose but then I saw your update

Malorie is lovely

Blushingm · 16/11/2018 20:50

Seren being welsh what about Mali as a middle name?

TatianaLarina · 17/11/2018 09:52

Serena/Seren Mallory is nice.

What about Maëlys?

wizzler · 17/11/2018 12:39

Mallory?

FartnissEverbeans · 17/11/2018 12:47

Mael is a boys’ name in France - I know one. I think it’s Breton. Maelle is the feminine version, which I think is beautiful (should have the little dots above the first e though!).

Malin is a nice Scandinavian name. Malika is Arabic. Even Melissa could work.

TidyDancer · 17/11/2018 13:10

Sorry to hear of what is happening. How about just using M? Or does FIL have a favourite song/book/place that you could find a suitable name from?

MikeUniformMike · 17/11/2018 13:23

I don't like Seren. It's the Shannon of its day.
Iona is nice, but can be a bit surname-dependent.
My thoughts are with you and your family.

NewName54321 · 17/11/2018 14:26

Serena Malcolm Surname or Serenna Malcolm Surname (not sure how how you're pronouncing the first name) both sound absolutely fine. Don't faff about trying to make another name work as the link wouldn’t be obvious so no point having it.

Seren Malcolm "trips" a bit on the n-m, so I wouldn’t use that without another middle name in-between (which with a double-barrelled surname you might want to avoid).

Is MIL still around? Was there a girl's name FIL really liked but they didn't use?

FartnissEverbeans · 17/11/2018 14:58

Or maybe Serena Middlename Malcolm Surname? Or is that too much with the surname being double barrelled?

RosiePosies · 17/11/2018 18:16

Thank you everyone.

He very sadly passed away on Wednesday.

@newname that's a good idea, I will ask her tonight. I have a feeling it will be Florence as that was his mothers name. So Seren Florence T-S?

@mike can i ask what area you are from? I'm in the south east, and I'd never actually heard the name before and thought it was beautiful straight away, I've since found out it's very popular in Wales...

Mac is a nn for Malcolm, so how about Macy ?

wafflyversatile · 17/11/2018 19:37

I think it is perfectly fine to have Malcolm as a middle name.

Sorry for your loss.

fieryginger · 17/11/2018 19:42

How about just Mal. I have a female in-law called Mal.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/11/2018 19:54

@RosiePosies, I'm so very sorry for your loss.🌹

CloserIAm2Fine · 17/11/2018 20:39

I’m so sorry for your loss

Florence for his mum would be lovely if you think that’s what he would’ve chosen

Seren is lovely btw! I live in Wales and yes it’s popular but that’s because it’s a great name! I like the meaning ‘star’ as well.

mothertobe789 · 17/11/2018 21:32

So sorry to hear about your FIL. My dad passed away a few weeks ago and wont meet my first baby who is due in January, were having a girl too. Its heartbreaking so my heart goes out to you too. His name was James and have been trying to think of a way to honour him in her name. X

FartnissEverbeans · 18/11/2018 03:20

I’m so sorry to hear about your FIL. Serene Florence is really beautiful.

FartnissEverbeans · 18/11/2018 03:20

*Seren

Madeline88 · 18/11/2018 03:31

I prefer Serena Mael. Or Seren May is lovely.

Madeline88 · 18/11/2018 03:32

Oh I’m sorry to see he has passed away :(

I think Serena Florence is nicer then Seren.

RosiePosies · 19/11/2018 19:18

@mothertobe789 I'm so sorry for your loss Thanks I think James is actually a lovely name for a girl, I think Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively called their daughter that? Would be a lovely middle name. Or Jamie x

Another vote for Malcolm as a middle name.
