Is Lucas too common?

Me and DH have got Lucas at the top of our baby boy list (we find out sex in 4 days). It's number bloody 5 in the top names though.
I've always like different and unique names but we both seem to like this one.
Our first DS is called Grayson that we picked about 8 years ago (he's only 15mo) and has always been top of our boy list. We never looked at the popularity of Grayson, I've since looked and it was number 97 when we chose it, 25 when we used it and it's number 20 now.
So pretty high in the top 100 anyway!
I like Lucas (one tree hill anyone?!?!) And it's a name we seem to agree on.
Other names I liked were Axel and Quinn but DH isn't as keen and they could be super popular next year anyway.
Do we just take the plunge and go with Lucas?

I don’t know a single one, and I’ve got 3 dc of varying ages. Never met one. It’s a lovely name though so don’t let it’s supposed popularity put you off.

Go for Lucas if you both like it, he could be 1 of 5 in his class or he could end up the only child in his school with his name. It is just luck, if it helps I know lots and every Lucas I've ever taught or met has been lovely. Grin

I have 2 under 2 and I’ve never met a Lucas! Are you in the UK? It says Lucas was 25th most popular boys’ name in the most recent stats (2017).

I'm in the UK, my data was from baby centre which I'm now realising could be American data!
Glad to hear positive experiences for Lucas. I like to get used to the name while pregnant and would like to know if we're calling little one Lucas instead of bump or baby come Saturday!

We have a Lucas who is 3 and only know of one other....He happened to be the baby next to us in hospital. We get lots of compliments on his name.

juneau · 13/11/2018 15:51

There are three in DS1's class, but he's in year 6, so I don't know about babies now. Lucas rhymes with mucus ...

Shadow1234 · 13/11/2018 17:52

I love the name Lucas, and have never met one.

Midnightsand · 13/11/2018 17:58

I'm a teacher and I've only ever taught one. He was/is a starStarSmile

bahhumbuggery · 13/11/2018 18:00

Nice name, I like plain old Luke though too!

WhatALump · 13/11/2018 18:17

I work in a primary school. There are 11 Lucas’ and 3 Luca’s in our school.

ZebraKid71 · 13/11/2018 18:24

Yes. I know lots ranging from 2 months to 12.

ghostsandghoulies · 13/11/2018 18:58

There's a search engine that searches for popularity by UK postcode.

Are you sure that Lucas is top 5 in the UK?

ReginaPhalange89 · 13/11/2018 19:41

I only know one Lucas and he's 5!
I've never noticed it much on the top baby names so surprised to hear it's high on the list !
If you both like it you should go for it, you'll probably end up regretting it if you don't !

TheGrassIsGreener3 · 13/11/2018 22:37

It's too popular for me. But if you love the name, go for it.

DramaAlpaca · 14/11/2018 00:41

I've never met one. I prefer Luke, but it's a nice enough name.

Sophronia · 14/11/2018 03:12

Grayson is #109 in the UK

SallyWD · 14/11/2018 06:34

I've never met a lucas. Very surprised it's number 5!

Cbeebiesrehab · 14/11/2018 07:57

I know one Lucas who is 5.
I think it’s one of those names you think is more common than it is because it’s such a well known name. It’s ok-don’t find it a very exciting name.

CarrieBlu · 14/11/2018 08:00

I’ve worked in early years for 15 years and have two under 5 DC, and I’ve only ever met one Lucas (and even then it was at least 12 years ago. I really like it, slightly edgier than the trend for Luca that seemed quite popular a few years ago.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 14/11/2018 08:00

Do you really think Axel will be popular next year?

Also not met many Lucas and never met a Quinn or Grayson.

lebkuchenlover · 14/11/2018 08:09

Lucas has been popular and feels a little dated to my ears.

I love Grayson and find it much more classic than Lucas! Also really like Quinn and Axel!

Akasia · 14/11/2018 08:25

Never met a Lucas and I am in a job where I encounter lots of names :)

It's a very nice name op, if you feel it go for it!!

MsHopey · 14/11/2018 10:06

It's still top name at the moment. Been practising in my head 😂

"GRAYSON! LUCAS! DINNER IS READY!"
"Grayson, Lucas, you're gonna be late for school."
"Grayson. Lucas. Stay where I can see you!" 😂

I prefer Lucas to Axel although think it like Quinn the best ...

MsHopey · 14/11/2018 10:21

Quinn is DHs least favourite. I like Axel but it just doesn't seem like my son's name. That sounds ridiculous, but there's a few names I like but they don't feel 100% right to me. Axel is one of those names.
And DH thinks Quinn sounds like a girls name, this is because of Batmans Harley Quinn.
