Anna or Lucy

Hiya,

Were expecting DD2 soon and I can't decide on a name. Thought I'd see what you think. DD1 is Imogen and our surname starts with A.

Torn between Anna Olivia and Lucy Anna.

Anna Olivia is my absolute favourite but I'm put off because:

  • very similar to her cousin's name
  • no cute baby nicknames for Anna
  • hubby thinks Anna A.... is a mouthful

What do you think?

I love Anna, it's a classic. Lucy always feels a bit cutesy to me.

I love the sound of Anna A that wouldn't put me off

Sophronia · 11/11/2018 10:27

Anna is lovely. Lucy is a bit wet.

userabcname · 11/11/2018 10:28

I much prefer Lucy. Anna is such a boring name.

wewillrememberthem · 11/11/2018 10:32

Love Anna but not Lucy as it get shortened to Loose!

daisypond · 11/11/2018 10:32

I like both but I love Anna. There are loads of pet names for Anna - Annie, Nan, Nancy, Annette, etc, in English-speaking countries, and other forms like Annika, Annick, Anushka, Anya, etc, etc, from abroad. I really like Anya, for example.

MLP79 · 11/11/2018 10:40

Thanks ladies. It is so interesting to hear other people's responses 😊 I know a very inspirational Lucy so I don't think it is wet, but I know where you're coming from... And Anna is a simple name (I'd not say boring as such) but our surname is long and we always have to spell it, so a simple first name is intentional... I love more unusual names like Xanthe and Calliope but I'm not sure DD would thank us as we're in a fairly conservative little village

Looove Anna! There are tons of great baby nicknames as suggested above, and I think Anna A- sounds cool and memorable.

Agree Lucy is a bit wet, sorry!

Eleanor90 · 11/11/2018 11:41

Something like Anna Calliope would be amazing!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/11/2018 11:41

Like both, slightly prefer Lucy.

MLP79 · 11/11/2018 11:52

Anna Calliope Rose was my number 1 choice for a while. DD1 insists on Lucy...

DramaAlpaca · 11/11/2018 11:55

I love both.

Lucy Anna would be my choice.

Icklepup · 11/11/2018 12:32

Anna

cantthinkofausernamee · 11/11/2018 12:33

Love Lucy. Find Anna a very boring name tbh

maddiie · 11/11/2018 12:35

Anna

BikeRunSki · 11/11/2018 12:38

I love Anna, I live alliterative names and Annie is a cute nickname!!

I am pretty ambivalent about Lucy.

Cbeebiesrehab · 11/11/2018 12:43

Love Anna and adore Annie.

Lucy feels very blah to me-sorry.

hellraising · 11/11/2018 12:58

Anna Olivia doesn't work. It jilts it gets an 'r' sound so that it sounds like 'Anna Rolivia'

Anna Lucy would be my choice. Or Anna Lucia.

Endonia · 11/11/2018 13:54

I prefer Lucy. Anna is so dull.

Endonia · 11/11/2018 13:54

I don’t like Lucy Anna though - it sounds like one name Luciana.

Lucy Olivia is lovely.

Glumglowworm · 11/11/2018 13:57

Anna is lovely and classic, not boring!

MrsCalypsoGrant · 11/11/2018 14:05

I'm biased because I have an Anna, but I really do think it's the nicer of the two. Anna is a definitively classic name. You can be Anna when you are 2, 22, 52 or 92.

When I meet an adult Anna I always ask genuinely if they like their name and not one of them has said anything other than that they love it

Conseulabananahammock · 11/11/2018 14:06

My daughter is a lucy-mai so I am pretty biased. It gets shortened to lu-lu more than it does loose.

VenusInSpurs · 11/11/2018 14:32

Lucy Anna’

I know many tough Lucys, starting with the Peanuts Grin

I don’t like names that end in an a running into another vowel, so this would happen with AnnerRoliver as well as your surname.

Lucy is a more interesting name than Anna, tne ones I knew were Lulu, Louby, Lou, Locket , or just Lucy. Never Luce.

Dauphinois · 11/11/2018 14:35

Both are lovely but Anna tips it for me, and alliterative names are ace!

LarkDescending · 11/11/2018 19:17

Another vote for Anna.

Anna Lucinda, perhaps?
