Anna or Lucy

Hiya,

Were expecting DD2 soon and I can't decide on a name. Thought I'd see what you think. DD1 is Imogen and our surname starts with A.

Torn between Anna Olivia and Lucy Anna.

Anna Olivia is my absolute favourite but I'm put off because:

  • very similar to her cousin's name
  • no cute baby nicknames for Anna
  • hubby thinks Anna A.... is a mouthful

What do you think?

Love love love the name Anna.

Absolutely timeless. There are very very few names which won’t date badly. But Anna is one of them.
When you hear the name Anna you have no idea how old the person may be. Plus it’s a Beautiful name.

I really wanted to called both DD’s Anna, but DH said nope 🙁

I prefer Lucy. It has a nicer sound for me and im not keen on first names and surnames that begin with the same initial.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 11/11/2018 20:02

Anna Lucy is nice.

MingoMingo · 11/11/2018 20:05

I had Anastasia on my list, I love Anna but I also love a lot of the options that can be shortened to Anna. Prefer Anna to Lucy.

meow1989 · 11/11/2018 20:19

Like Anna but would choose Lucy of the two.

MLP79 · 12/11/2018 14:10

Thanks for all your comments. They seem popular / unpopular in pretty equal measure! I've still got a month of thinking time. Also like Isobel but not keen when shortened to Izzy. And Emmeline but OH not keen.

What about Annabel, if you like Isobel and Anna?

I don't really like Isobel, it's just very oh...there's another one. I have similar feelings on Anna and Lucy. Anna is the strongest of the three.

Emmeline is nice though, and of a different vibe to the other names. Best one on the list imo.

The name Lucy is wet? I've heard it all now! So would you say Amy, Katy, Chloe etc are wet? Hmm And no i don't have a DD named any of those.

I think Anna though...

3in4years · 13/11/2018 23:25

I have an Anna Lucy. Beautiful names.

Valkarie · 13/11/2018 23:33

I love Anna and think it's no problem with an A surname. But if you really don't like A A then Hannah is very similar

MikeUniformMike · 13/11/2018 23:42

Whichever the baby looks like when you meet her. I like both names very much.

wineandcatsandlego · 14/11/2018 20:50

Lucy has always been my favourite girls name. I made the mistake of bringing it up when we were struggling to name our girl kitten. Now struggling to find a girls name i like as much for baby due next year (only just found out so maaaaajorly jumping the gun Grin)

ZebraKid71 · 15/11/2018 14:40

Anna gets my vote, LOVE Anna Calliope! I also like the longer versions of Anna, Annabel, Anneka, Annette etc.

Lucy Anna sounds like Luciana as it sort of rolls into one.

Mollie85 · 16/11/2018 17:55

Anna is beyond dull to my ears... sorry to any mums of Anna’s Blush

Lucy sparkles to me Grin
