Too similar to Alexa and therefore too virtual assistant?

It's the name that I keep coming back to from our list. It's stuck in my head and I don't think I like the others quite as much.

Part of me thinks why let a potentially tenuous association ruin a lovely name. The other part worries she'd be mocked or forever associated with a smart home device...

Fwiw the pronunciation (Greek family) would be Alex-EEa with that emphasis which is less like Alexa than it looks on the page

Anytime a person says her name it’s likely several devices will alert! Don’t do that to her.

Sorry but I think I’m in the same camp as Fission.

People will probability get the pronunciation wrong initially, so she'll be in for a lot of corrections. Personally I don't think that's the end of the world though.

But as you say, it does sound more different from the device than it looks. I'm going to tentatively say, I think it'll be ok. ☺

I like it a lot. The devices wouldn't bother me - not that I've ever come across one in real life.

I have a daughter with a similar Alex- name and she hasn't had any issues with bullying related to those devices or home devices getting confused, but we know very few people who actually have them (and even fewer that use the Alexa for it, apparently there are other wake-up names you can use).

I think Alexia is a lovely name and if it is your favourite, I see no reason not go for it.

Maybe because I'm a HCP I can't hear it without thinking of 'dyslexia', 'ataxia', 'aphasia' etc. I'm pretty sure 'alexia' is the name for when you suffer a head trauma and then become unable to read.

I much prefer Alexa. The 'ia' is just too fussy and unecessary IMO. But then again, I wouldn't use Alexa because of Amazon.

It's a condition. She will get called Alexa a lot.

Ive went for Alexis. Similar but it doesn't make our annoying Alexa pipe up when we say it

There is a girl in dds class age 10 called Alexa and children constantly say 'Alexa what's the weather like? Alexa tell us a joke' it will get boring hopefully until she gets new class mates.

By the time she's old enough to care "Alexas" will only be seen in the science museum alongside sinclair c5s and other such gadgetry.

It was a name long before it was used for a device I'd say you know already that it's your chosen name...

As others have said, it's a medical condition. It's the first thing I thought of.
