What would your choice be between these two names? ;D Oh and I'd like to add, she would grow up to look pretty foreigner-ish here. She's American-born-Chinese

I've never seen Melia before. Is it supposed to be pronounced "mee-lee-ah" or "mell-ee-ah"?

I don't mind Mira personally, and but if you are going to be living in the UK (?) I think you'll find there are some negative associations with the name here.

Mell-ee-ah! And no, we are not living in the UK right now, but in the next two years there is a big possibilty of us moving to there. Is Melia too out there? Our friends here said that it'll be better for her to have a unique name that looks a bit foreign, but I'm not so sure yet.

Melis is the name of a hotel chain. Mira is very similar to the name of a notorious serial child murderer.

JanetLovesJason · 04/11/2018 05:20

Melia

Unicyclethief · 04/11/2018 05:21

Melia is ugly, Mira is pretty. Both very ordinary names.

PenelopeFlintstone · 04/11/2018 05:29

Isn't melia/milia a skin condition? Not sure of the pronunciation as I've never heard it said. Sorry OP.

Username0 · 04/11/2018 05:45

Yes it is also a skin conditionSad

I always forget how to say Melia and always resort to Amelia, and Mira is so pretty but I had to remind myself for ages that Mira rhymes with Sarah. Hope that helps

Sophronia · 04/11/2018 05:52

Mira

GrammerlyH · 04/11/2018 06:53

Mira makes me think of Saul’s wife in Homeland. Not a bad thing. Melia makes me think of a skin condition. Both nice names though and if I knew someone with either name that’s what I would think of first! So if you love one of them, use it.

WhyDidIEatThat · 04/11/2018 06:56

We have a Melia in the family which is annoying because I wanted the name for my youngest, still love it.

GoneForFood · 04/11/2018 07:01

I would pronounce Melia as Mee-lee-ah so I’d suggest spelling it Mellia if that’s how you want it pronounced.

I’m not a fan of either, Amelia is so much prettier, and Amira is better that Mira, which I think would get pronounced as My-ra instead or Meera.

Yogagirl123 · 04/11/2018 07:05

MIRA Shower, MYRA serial killer or MELIA hotel chain to me OP. But your baby, your choice. Good luck on your Name search.

Frannibananni · 04/11/2018 07:22

How about Myla

polarisation · 04/11/2018 07:23

What about Mireille or Mireya/Mireia?

Sessy19 · 04/11/2018 08:55

Neither seem like names to me, more like objects. There are much prettier names out there. Sorry OP, JMHO

Polkasq · 04/11/2018 09:45

How about Mei or Mei-Li?

Username0 · 04/11/2018 10:33

Melia sounds made up and I wouldn't use on account of the skin condition.
I'd definitely go for Mira- presuming you'll be pronouncing it Meer-ra? Pretty name that I think will suit your daughter based on your ethnicity

nocluenoidea · 04/11/2018 10:39

@ItsalmostSummer how does Mira rhyme with Sarah?

OatsBeansBarley · 04/11/2018 10:46

Melissa
Marianne

namechangeforthisposst · 04/11/2018 10:58

Mira rhymes with stila like the make up brand.

It's my name.

Myra the serial killer is pronounced differently like kyra Lyra but people will pronounce mira like Myra. Or meera. Or ask if you're Indian all your life. Or tell you excitedly they saw tie name on the shower in a hotel.

I was named it decades ago and it was unheard of then in the uk but I've met lots of little ones in the past few years.

OatsBeansBarley · 04/11/2018 11:00

I don't know the make up brand! Any more clues?

Me- Ra?
