A woman from my antenatal class has named her baby Prudence. I can't decide if I like it or not! What do you think?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
C0untDucku1a · 01/11/2018 23:25

Love it. But i love charmed.

brizzledrizzle · 01/11/2018 23:27

Such a Dear name. I love it :-)

1sttimeDD · 01/11/2018 23:33

Love!

megletthesecond · 01/11/2018 23:38

Love it.

Cosmoa · 01/11/2018 23:38

Has Prude in it. Don't like it at all.

MollyHuaCha · 01/11/2018 23:39

I like it.

AnneWiddecombesHandbag · 01/11/2018 23:40

I think it’s nice but it does make me sing the song ‘dear prudence’ in my head

Didyeeaye · 01/11/2018 23:40

Another charmed fan here. I love it. Prudence is quirky but still feminine plus Pru is a lovely nickname

BurtTyrannosaurusMacklin · 01/11/2018 23:42

Not a fan personally. Makes me think of being “prudish” which is a weird association for a child’s name to me!

Screamqueenz · 01/11/2018 23:44

Love I

dellacucina · 01/11/2018 23:47

Please, no.

DramaAlpaca · 01/11/2018 23:51

Haven't you already got a thread about this name, or maybe it was another poster?

Anyway, same answer from me - I sort of like it.

Bouncingbelle · 02/11/2018 00:47

Awful. Ugly, old fashioned name. Would you really want to go through life being called Prudence?!

FrangelicoCandyBoughs · 02/11/2018 00:55

I like the idea of it but not sure if I actually like the name, if that makes any sense!.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 02/11/2018 00:56

Like it, not love it

moredoll · 02/11/2018 01:41

Not keen. I'd use it in a story, if I was writing a story which I'm not, but not irl.

Pemba · 02/11/2018 01:53

Well there is the Beatles song 'Dear Prudence' later covered by Siouxsie and the Banshees, so that's a pleasant association, but I still don't like it much. For some reason it just seems kind of a wrinkly name really. * There are nicer 'virtue' names, like Faith, Honor, Hope, Clemency.

  • Realised the wrinkly association is probably from prunes, may be getting mixed up with Prunella (which Prudence is nicer than I admit). Still prudence is not the most exciting quality is it? Remember when Gordon Brown used to drag it out in all his budget speeches?
ElizabethMainwaring · 02/11/2018 02:32

The song was written about Mia Farrow's sister. It was when the Beatles were in India with the Maharishi. I think George Harrison had a bit of a thing about her.

Sungura · 02/11/2018 02:55

I'm not sure how I feel about it either. The intelligence and excellence associated with it is really positive. But the "prude" in the the name is what many people hear.

TinyRick · 02/11/2018 03:16

I love Pru as a nickname.

But I don't like Prudence.

UptownFlunk · 02/11/2018 03:24

Really not nice. It has prude in it for a start and I’m not keen on virtue names overall. Pru is also an awful nickname on so many levels.

Zoflorabore · 02/11/2018 03:26

I think it's horrible.

Alfie190 · 02/11/2018 03:48

Horrible.

ElizabethMainwaring · 02/11/2018 04:05

When I hear Pru I always think of Pupil Referral Unit. Like a previous poster, I like the idea of it but not the reality. It looks nicer than it sounds.

Leannakate · 02/11/2018 04:23

Love pru, hate prudence!
