We are trying to find a girls name and both love the name Erin but we like the pronunciation Air-in rather than Eh-rin
DH is Irish and we like this name as it is a nod to his heritage (I'm aware it's not really used in Ireland), but he is adamant is should be pronounced Air-in.
I'm quite taken with the spelling Aeryn as I like that it's longer which goes better with our short one syllable surname and love the pronunciation. It also has a vague ethereal feel to it.
What do you think mumsnetters??

Aeryn is an lovely spelling and the same spelling as a great Farscape character so that is a super bonus!

Cosmoa - my name isn't Eloisa, just a name I've always liked, but it does sound lovely with Aerin, thanks Smile
Aerin Eloisa Mary...

It’s like calling your child Wales, or Lithuania. Or, if you’re my generation of Irish people, after a brand of packet soup. But Erin much the best if you must.

Erin is lovely (I pronounce it eh-rin) I think I would get the other spellings confused and continue to use eh-run because I wouldn’t understand how to pronounce the other versions at all (unless I knew her well of course)

Erin X

Aeryn is a lovely spelling and recognisable so that you get the pronunciation you like though I also think that that is also how Aaron is pronounced in some countries. (If that makes a difference to you, but it wouldn't to me)

Lots of names are place names. India, Sydney etc, so the naming after a country doesn't bother me especially as it is a recognised name now. I probably wouldn't go for Lithuania Grin.
As an added bonus I've just discovered that Aerin is also a character in Lord of The Rings!
Thanks for all the comments, actually a better reaction than I expected!
