Aeryn Aerin or Erin

We are trying to find a girls name and both love the name Erin but we like the pronunciation Air-in rather than Eh-rin
DH is Irish and we like this name as it is a nod to his heritage (I'm aware it's not really used in Ireland), but he is adamant is should be pronounced Air-in.
I'm quite taken with the spelling Aeryn as I like that it's longer which goes better with our short one syllable surname and love the pronunciation. It also has a vague ethereal feel to it.
What do you think mumsnetters??

Aeryn looks lovely written down. I Think if you use Erin you will get the Eh pronunciation you don’t like.

britiole · 22/10/2018 20:43

I prefer Aerin to Aeryn - Erin would definitely end up pronounced Eh-rin.

ZebraKid71 · 22/10/2018 20:44

Aeryn looks really nice.

RollerJed · 22/10/2018 20:48

I have an Air-in as well. Not quiet spelt like yours but dh also Irish wanted the nod to Eire in the name.

EloisaJane · 22/10/2018 20:51

Rollerjed how is yours spelt if you don't mind me asking?

Does she like her name? Smile

I love Aeryn, it was one of the middle names we considered for DD (after a Sci fi character in our case, a pretty awesome one though!) that spelling looks "right" to me but then it's how the character's name is spelt me was my first exposure to the name.

RollerJed · 22/10/2018 20:57

I've pm'd you

Eleanor90 · 22/10/2018 21:06

Aerin! Estée Lauder’s daughter, I believe.

villainousbroodmare · 22/10/2018 21:08

They all sound the same to me (Irish).

PumpkinSpiceAmericanoNoSugar · 22/10/2018 21:12

I think to an Irish ear Erin and Aeryn (from Farscape) sound just the same but people do often pronounce Erin oddly outside of Ireland so Aeryn would give you a more accurate pronunciation. On the other hand, every time she's in Ireland she will have her name spelled wrongly.

EloisaJane · 22/10/2018 21:25

Villainous - they all sound the same to DH too.
If only I thought Erin would get pronounced like that in the UK I would just use that spelling.
I'm really pleased to see so many nice responses. I thought I would get told off for considering a yooneek spelling.

I like the spelling Aerin best.

Shadow1234 · 22/10/2018 21:45

prefer the Aerin spelling.

EloisaJane · 22/10/2018 22:50

Leaning towards Aerin.
I like Aerin Skye.

Aerin is beautiful. I went to school with one and always loved her name. I think a y instead of an i can sometimes make a name look a bit yooneek.

RavenWings · 22/10/2018 23:00

I agree with villainous, all sound the same to me. I personally like Erin but can see why you'd use something else. I'd choose Aerin.

BevBrook · 22/10/2018 23:02

A family member is Erin and we all say Air-in but everyone else calls her Errin, so I think you are right that this is how it will be pronounced, in SE England anyway. I still prefer Erin to the other two though!

Cosmoa · 23/10/2018 10:44

I've also seen it spelt Eirinn ❤️

Icklepup · 24/10/2018 16:26

Aerin Skye is nice

Eleanor90 · 24/10/2018 19:39

Aerin is beautiful, but isn’t “air in sky” a bit wordy?

How about Aerin Faye?

EloisaJane · 24/10/2018 21:35

I hadn't thought of the Air In Sky thing.
Faye is pretty but I knew someone I didn't like called Faye.
Thinking of using Mary as it's a family name so Aerin Mary but would want a second middle name either before or afer it as my DS has 2 mn's.

Is your name Eloisa? If so... Aerin Eloisa has a nice ring to it than Aerin Mary. Maybe Aerin Eloisa Mary...

halcyondays · 25/10/2018 09:18

All sound the same to me I'd definitely spell it Erin, I really dislike the other spellings.

ForgivenessIsDivine · 25/10/2018 09:24

Eirn is the name. Anything else is made up. Air in Sky is just a bit weird.

ForgivenessIsDivine · 25/10/2018 09:25

Doh!!! Edit button required! ! ERIN!!!
