Pluto

Pluto was on my shortlist for DS1 but I didn't use it because of bad reactions (expected!), but I really do still like it. Is there anyone else who likes this name or even thinks it's usable?

And if not... does anyone else have any other suggestions for mystical kind of names (for either gender)? Outer space, constellations, etc...
I also liked Nova and Luna for girls, and I kind of liked Aries for a boy.

I think of mickeys dog

Not sure what else to say

CalamityJane10 · 19/10/2018 21:15

Sorry, I just think of the Disney dog.

How about Orion?

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 19/10/2018 21:15

Yep. Disney Pluto.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 19/10/2018 21:16

Sorry, I'm not keen, I just think of the demoted planet.

DramaAlpaca · 19/10/2018 21:16

Don't be daft, of course it's not usable.

tryingtocatchthewind · 19/10/2018 21:17

Disney dog and a tiny non planet. No way.

HoratioNightboy · 19/10/2018 21:18

I love Pluto! Although I'd only use it for something with fur. Wink

Cowardlycustard2 · 19/10/2018 21:18

Sorry OP it's awful, sounds like something from a dodgey 1980s sci fi series!

Sessy19 · 19/10/2018 21:18

What about Greek mythology? Or literature?
Amadeus
Aloysius
Thea
Sylvia

Ticcinalong · 19/10/2018 21:19

I am sorry but I really wouldn’t do Pluto, only for a dog!

How about?
Cosmos
Sirius
Elara
Star
Lyra

Cheeseplantandpickle · 19/10/2018 21:20

Stella

Halley

Cheeseplantandpickle · 19/10/2018 21:20

And Cosmo

DangerMouse17 · 19/10/2018 21:21

Uranus? Grin

Just kidding OP. What about Cosimo?

Glumglowworm · 19/10/2018 21:23

Don’t be so ridiculous

You’re naming a human not a cartoon dog!

NoBirthdayHugs · 19/10/2018 21:24

No, it reminds me of the Disney dog. It doesn’t remind me of space or the planet as it’s furst connotation for me. I’d even go for Neptune or Jupiter or Saturn over Pluto.

I like the previous suggestion of Orion. Other boys names relating to space could be Atlas, Leo, Antares, Rigel, Apollo, Archer, Hercules, Aries.

Knittedfairies · 19/10/2018 21:25

No...

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/10/2018 23:19

I don't see anything wrong with naming children after planets ect.
(Although Pluto is pushing it a bit and it is not a planet. )
There are peopnamed after flowers plants ,Countries ,Days of the week, months, seasons., Colours, Gems even animals. No one moans about those types of names.

Space name ideas.
Saturn. Orbit. Galaxy.

Cosmoa · 19/10/2018 23:54

I'm usually very open minded when it comes to names! But is just can't get the dog and planet out of my head for this one. And I just don't think it works for a name at all...

BackforGood · 19/10/2018 23:58

Agree with everyone else..... it ventures into child cruelty IMO

ViserionTheDragon · 20/10/2018 00:11

This ^^

Sungura · 20/10/2018 06:12

Extremely awful choice for a person's name.
Here are some alternatives:
Atlas
Castor
Hektor (Largest Jupiter Trojan asteroid)
Helios
Lynx
Newton
Perseus
Phoenix
Rigel
Stellar
Sol
Titan
Draco
Cosmos
Archer
Galileo
Oberon
Quacey (means moon)
Chander (ditto)
Charon (moon on Pluto)
Deimos (moon on Mars)
Hunter (Orion's constellation)

Sungura · 20/10/2018 06:14

I only did boys, sorry.

EthelHallowsBroomstick · 20/10/2018 06:34

I would find it hard not to laugh if I met a person called Pluto. It's ok for a dog though.

Tbh I think most of the space-y suggestions on here are a bit try-hard and cringe (I mean as names, its not try-hard or cringe that people are suggesting and trying to help) but they are better than Pluto.

WerewolfNumber1 · 20/10/2018 07:02

The god of the underworld. It’s terrible. Sorry.

peachypetite · 20/10/2018 07:04

Grin you can't do that to your baby. There must be another name you can give.
