Just that really, what do you think of the name Lyra? It's to go with a fairly long surname beginning with B. Thanks in advance!

I like it!

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 18/10/2018 20:58

Love it, and the book/character it comes from.

Sexnotgender · 18/10/2018 20:58

It reminds me of Lycra.

buscaution · 18/10/2018 20:58

Lie ra

Or

Lee ra

Will be a very common question.

Alaaya · 18/10/2018 20:58

I love it. I wanted it as a name for DD. So pretty.

FlosCampi · 18/10/2018 21:01

As long as the surname beginning with B isn't Lyra Belacqua, as in Philip Pullman! Although actually it's a lovely full name anyway and she's a good heroine in the books.

RaeRae2010 · 18/10/2018 21:02

I like it!

RollerJed · 18/10/2018 21:05

Dh loves it but we felt it was too close to liar so we went with something similar starting with L.

DramaAlpaca · 18/10/2018 21:05

I like it.

missmouse101 · 18/10/2018 21:08

Lycra/liar to me. Not keen.

Mrsnjg · 18/10/2018 21:08

I LOVE it, I would use it myself but theres a girl around here called Lyra already x

KnockMeDown · 18/10/2018 21:09

I know one, and pronunciation has never been an issue.

MrsGB2225 · 18/10/2018 21:09

I first read it as Lycra.

tenbob · 18/10/2018 21:09

ToBeARockAndNotToRoll · 18/10/2018 21:15

Love it. Beautiful name. Was in my top 3 for DD. BUT she didn't end up looking like one!

Also in my head I had the 'liar' (and there's a passage in the books about the character being referred to as that, if you were inspired by the books) and 'lycra' looks like/sounds like.

Rebe90 · 18/10/2018 21:29

Thanks for the feedback all. Was thinking it would be pronounced 'lie ra' not 'lee ra'. Husband and I both loved the books as kids so think that's influenced our opinion! Slightly concerned about the Lycra/ liar associations though!

Love it! I'd love to be named after such a great character!

Grimbles · 19/10/2018 21:21

It's on my list, alongside Leda and Lena.

Yes, there is a theme to the names I like Blush

Glumglowworm · 19/10/2018 21:24

I really like it, love the books and Lyra is a good character to be named after I think

Betacarotene · 19/10/2018 21:28

My one year old is a Lyra. One person (of Eastern European origin) asked if it was leeera. No one has called her Liar. A few people have said that they know another Lyra though.

Most people say oh, like the book?
