What are your thoughts on the name Cormac, possibly occassionally shortened to Cory. I think it's a nice strong name for a man but struggle to picture it on a baby. Thought?

Reminds me of Caramac.

DragonGoby · 14/10/2018 07:54

I like Cormac. I only know one (an adult). Is it Irish?

Are you Irish? I am, and it seems a good name to me.

I've never actually heard Cormac shortened, actually, possibly because the emphasis on the first syllable is so strong? The way I say it, Cory is almost longer than Cormac! Also v American.

TillyTheTiger · 14/10/2018 07:56

I know a 3yo Cormac, it really suits him

Peridot1 · 14/10/2018 07:56

It is Irish. I knew one years ago. I quite like it. Unusual but not too unusual. Strong.

astoundedgoat · 14/10/2018 07:56

@Dragongoby - yes, it is

Shazafied · 14/10/2018 07:56

I love it !

funmummy48 · 14/10/2018 07:58

I quite like it but it does put me in mind if Caramac too!

Zhx3 · 14/10/2018 08:01

The only Cormac I've heard of is Cormac Henry, who is Principal Flautist at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra Grin. He really is an outstanding musician, so I have a positive vibe about the name!

SmallBee · 14/10/2018 08:01

Love it. There is an author called Cormac Mccarthy.

Wherearemycarkeys · 14/10/2018 08:08

I really like it. I'd shorten it to Mac if I was going to shorten it

MaudebeGonne · 14/10/2018 08:11

I like it but I have a very lovely cousin called Cormac. For people who haven’t heard it pronounced, the “Mac” is more of a “mic” sound.

ThursdayLastWeek · 14/10/2018 08:14

Where I live Cormac is the name of the company contracted to build roads. It would be a massive no no here because of that!

If you like Cory, why not simply Cory?

ismellsnow · 14/10/2018 08:16

Love it, considered it for my DS along with Conrad

C0untDucku1a · 14/10/2018 08:20

My immediate association is cormac murphy o’conner. I have no others. I know of no others. I like it.

Cel982 · 14/10/2018 08:20

I like it - I'm Irish and it's not an uncommon name here. I know one Cormac who goes by Corey.

CherryPavlova · 14/10/2018 08:27

Good if you’re Irish or Catholic.

Outfoxed · 14/10/2018 10:35

My first and only association with the name Cormac is Hermione Grangers sexually aggressive Slugclub Christmas Party date Cormac Mclaggen..

RavenWings · 14/10/2018 11:35

Great name.

Wherearemycarkeys · 14/10/2018 11:42

Oohh Conrad is cool too!

anatol · 14/10/2018 12:17

Lovely name if you're Irish. I've never heard of it being shortened though.

missyB1 · 14/10/2018 12:23

Lovely name but please don't shorten it. If you call him Cory thats what people will assume his name is, Cormac is too nice to be changed!

FishCanFly · 14/10/2018 12:57

yes!

fifithefoof · 14/10/2018 13:02

I like it. There's a bad Cormac on Corrie atm.
