What are your thoughts on the name Sophie? Would you use a name you liked despite it’s popularity?

It's harmless but very meh.

Lynne1Cat · 14/10/2018 10:08

It's a bit too ordinary for my liking. I know a couple of Sophies, and that's probably why I don't care for the name.

midsomermurderess · 14/10/2018 11:57

Solid but rather dull.

DramaAlpaca · 14/10/2018 12:00

I absolutely love it. I much prefer it to Sophia. If I loved a name I'd use it.

BestBeforeYesterday · 14/10/2018 12:04

I think it's a beautiful name, but overused at the moment and the problem with overused names is that they fall out of fashion sooner or later. Classic names never go through phases of extreme popularity.

AdventuringThroughLife · 14/10/2018 12:10

I think Sophia is the one that will fall out of fashion as it came from nowhere and whizzed up in popularity.

Sophie surely is a classic name?

SemperIdem · 14/10/2018 16:16

I there were 3 Sophie’s in my year at school, 4 in the year above and 3 in the year below, all would have been born in the late 80’s, so to me it seems more like a name of one of my peers than a child’s name.

divafever99 · 14/10/2018 16:19

I have a Sophie, she is 3. She is the only one in her school nursery class and I don't know of any other little girls with that name, so maybe not that common. I love it, one of my favourite books when I was a child was the BFG (little girl in that was a Sophie).

Angelf1sh · 14/10/2018 16:19

Unlike MsNowtyBach I’ve never met a Sophie I DID like! As a result, I really don’t like the name.

LittleKitty1985 · 14/10/2018 16:58

I named my cat Sophie because I loved the name but thought it was too boring for a human

Cbeebiesrehab · 14/10/2018 18:28

I find it a bit boring sorry. Much like Emily-nice enough but blah.

HopeGarden · 14/10/2018 18:46

I like Sophie. I’m also a big fan of going for a name you love even if it’s popular, but then we did pick a top 10 name for our DC despite knowing full well it was a popular name. No regrets.

And as an aside, there’s not one single Sophie in my DC’s infant school. And just one Sophia.

I don’t think Sophie will date that much either because it’s been pretty popular for such a long time.

Yogagirl123 · 14/10/2018 20:15

Lovely name.

ChodeofChodeHall · 14/10/2018 21:02

I agree that it's a beautiful, timeless name.

incorruptibledream · 14/10/2018 21:17

Sophie's choice.

JupiterDrops · 14/10/2018 21:25

Zzzzzzzzzzzz
I'd assume the parents must be the most bland, unoriginal and dull people ever.

SemperIdem · 14/10/2018 21:38

Jupiter

You’re being overly harsh. Sophie is positively exotic compared to Anna and Sarah.

holasoydora · 14/10/2018 21:55

Blimey what horrible comments. Wallpaper?!

It's a gorgeous, timeless classic 100 times nicer than most of the girl's names in my daughters class.

NameChanger22 · 14/10/2018 22:01

I love it and I don't know anyone with that name.

RavenWings · 14/10/2018 22:34

I agree with the pp who called it wallpaper. It's a pretty enough name but it's just so overdone and unimaginative.

Sunflower321 · 14/10/2018 22:50

I also find Sophie overused and dull as a result.

foxtiger · 16/10/2018 21:19

I love it! It may be popular but it's not "trendy" and I don't think it will date badly.

OutPinked · 18/10/2018 09:54

It was my best friends name in primary school. I personally like it and don’t think it’s overly common, I’ve only met one other in my life.

Snappedandfarted2018 · 18/10/2018 14:15

I much rather have my Sophie and my other lads which are timeless common names rather than something out there and unknown and I speak as someone who doesn’t have a common name.

Sunflower321 · 18/10/2018 14:20

I much rather have my Sophie and my other lads which are timeless common names rather than something out there and unknown

So the alternative to a common name is 'something out there' and 'unknown'
