What are your thoughts on Iona for a girl?

Lovely island, lovely name. Feisty imo!!

pictish · 12/10/2018 16:54

It’s my name so I think it’s fabulous. Wink
There aren’t too many of us and I often get complimented on my name. Smile

Nellyelora · 12/10/2018 16:55

Beautiful but needs to work with the surname!

Lucked · 12/10/2018 16:56

We intended to use it but for some inexplicable reason I went a little of it in pregnancy having loved it for years. I still like it though and it stayed top of DH’s list.

lakehouse · 12/10/2018 16:59

Aww thank you- all positive so far. I'm a fan!

lozengeoflove · 12/10/2018 17:00

Gorgeous name.

TatianaLarina · 12/10/2018 17:01

Lovely.

Mrspotter12 · 12/10/2018 17:02

Depends on pronunciation- Welsh Yona i love, eye-ona not so much! But not my choice

Sunflower321 · 12/10/2018 17:25

Lovely

Peachbubble · 12/10/2018 18:32

Like it

RuthW · 12/10/2018 19:26

One of my fav names. Unfortunately someone put me off by saying 'I own her'

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/10/2018 19:27

Lovely.

SmilingButClueless · 12/10/2018 19:27

I like it, but as PP said it has to work as a surname. I wouldn’t use it if your surname was Carr or Twatt, put it that way...

Angelf1sh · 12/10/2018 19:28

I like it, but for some reason I think it would only suit someone who was likely to grow up to be tall.

Eleanor90 · 12/10/2018 21:23

Love it, doesn’t work with our surname unfortunately or it would have been on my list.

DramaAlpaca · 12/10/2018 21:31

It's lovely.

lakehouse · 12/10/2018 22:17

Excellent, looks like I have a winner (as long as she is tall!)

Aprilislonggone · 12/10/2018 22:22

As long as your surname isn't Wood.

pictish · 13/10/2018 08:00

What’s wrong with Iona Wood? Confused

Iona Carr I can understand as having potential to be teased, or Iona Gunn or whatever...but Iona Wood is fine?

I have had a handful of people over my 43 years say, “What do you own? hahahaa.” But the Hmm face has put them back in their place with their lame-arsed attempt at pisstaking. Most people by far tell me I have a great name.

Frosty66611 · 13/10/2018 08:03

I really like it. It’s in my top 10 list of girls name if I ever have a daughter

lakehouse · 13/10/2018 09:01

My surname isn't a noun so hopefully that's ok!

I know a toddler with this name but every time her Mum says it it sounds to me ‘I own her’ I can’t get past that and it makes the name sound ugly to me.

pictish · 13/10/2018 09:06

I never thought of that actually. I’m Scottish and live in Scotland so it’s always pronounced correctly. It’s possibly not a great name for certain accents to say.

Viviviolet · 13/10/2018 17:43

Haha about the tall comments because I’ve met two Iona’s and both of them are over 6 foot!
