Fiona?

We want to call our dd Fifi, but it’s important to us that she has a more grown up name to use should she choose to.

I really like Fiona, but I’m wondering if people would consider it a bit dated?

We’re also considering Josephine, Sophie/Sophia, Felicity, and dh likes Ophelia (but I’m not convinced). I also don’t think any of those lend themselves to the Fifi nickname quite as well as Fiona!

Do you like Fiona? Or do you prefer one of the other names/have any other potential long names for Fifi??

Beautiful, OP!

MrsRedFly · 11/10/2018 23:29

Means 'fair'

Littlebird88 · 11/10/2018 23:30

lovely.

MollyHuaCha · 11/10/2018 23:30

I like it

fiftyandfat · 11/10/2018 23:32

Fiona is a lovely name.

MotherofTerriers · 11/10/2018 23:32

I have a Fiona and she is lovely. And is often Fifi

Siun · 11/10/2018 23:33

I like it. Refreshing.

Proofer · 11/10/2018 23:33

I would go with Felicity or Ffion, maybe? Fiona is extremely middle aged sounding to me, probably because I have an aunt named it.

SerenDippyEggs · 11/10/2018 23:35

All I think of is Shrek screaming it Blush I have a friend called Ophelia who is Fifi and she is the most fashionable and lovely young woman I know!

Sophronia · 11/10/2018 23:44

How about Seraphina/Serafina or Seraphine?

Rebecca36 · 11/10/2018 23:48

Fiona is an excellent choice of name. Classic. She will be called Fee by friends I expect which is nice too.

hungryhippie · 11/10/2018 23:50

I like Josephine and Ophelia.
Fifi to me is a dogs name though..

BackforGood · 12/10/2018 00:21

To me FiFi is the name of one of those little handbag dogs.

However, I like the name Fiona.
I also love Josephine. However, I think it would naturally shorten to Josie

Thetimehascometo · 12/10/2018 00:25

I like Fiona, I also love the suggestion of Ffion 😊

AhoyDelBoy · 12/10/2018 06:11

Dated and awful. It’s Josephine for me, beautiful name (One of my DDs middle names). Her first name is on your list actually too 🤔

veeboo · 12/10/2018 06:14

There is also a Welsh variant Ffion

Shampooeeee · 12/10/2018 06:31

Ophelia is a great name.
Fiona is a bit boring.

GoJohnnyGoGoGoGo · 12/10/2018 06:31

I was also going suggest Ffion. All the little Ffions I know are called Fi or Fifi, but I live in Wales

Siun · 12/10/2018 06:41

Ophelia is waaaaay too try hard. The character, if you care, also went mad and drowned herself.

Sungura · 12/10/2018 06:59

Fiona is one of my favourite names. I also like Josephine.

LucyFox · 12/10/2018 07:06

Fiona is lovely. Simple, classic, not pretentious

MorningsEleven · 12/10/2018 07:55

Fiona is a lovely name.

TatianaLarina · 12/10/2018 08:07

Fiona is very dated. And dull.

Of your list Josephine, Sophia and Ophelia are far nicer.

midsomermurderess · 12/10/2018 08:48

It was ubiquitous when I was growing up but rarely found now. It's lovely.

AhoyDelBoy · 12/10/2018 08:50

Siun yawn Shock
We all know this. There are all sorts of connotations with lots of different names, is there not? e.g. the very name the OP is talking about is a big, green ogre in Shrek, yes?
