How would you pronounce Naomi? And which do you prefer?

  1. Nay-OH-mee

  2. Nigh-OH-mee

  3. Nay-ah-mee

Also, would you have trouble spelling it?

Oh, and do you like it?!

1 - no problem pronouncing it - like the name.

AfterSchoolWorry · 06/10/2018 17:02

Nay oh me.

I don't really like it because Naomi Campbell.

YouBoggleMyMind · 06/10/2018 17:02

Nay-oh-mee Smile

twoheaped · 06/10/2018 17:03

Should have said, no problem spelling it.

teletuby · 06/10/2018 17:04

I'd pronounce it number 2 (Nigh-OH-mee).
I wouldn't have trouble spelling it as I think it's a fairly well known name and don't know any other spellings of it!
I think it's an okay name too. Not my taste but it's nice.

Emma765 · 06/10/2018 17:04

Nigh-OH-mee. No trouble spelling it. I like it.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 06/10/2018 17:04

1, do know people who say nigh

whoatealltheharibo · 06/10/2018 17:05

Nay oh mee

MadeForThis · 06/10/2018 17:06

No 2

guiltynetter · 06/10/2018 17:06

number 2. it’s easy to spell.

ToBeARockAndNotToRoll · 06/10/2018 17:07

I was introduced to a Nigh-OH-mee so have only ever known it as that. Beautiful name!

ReginaPhalange89 · 06/10/2018 17:07

Number 2, and it's easy to spell as it's not too uncommon. I like it !

ChickaaaaannDipppaaaaassss · 06/10/2018 17:07

Naomi here :)

Nay Oh Me. I can not abide Nigh Oh Me, it sets my teeth on edge.
My mum pronounces it as Nair me though...

PurpleMac · 06/10/2018 17:08

1 Is my default but sometimes catch myself saying 2 as well.

RavenWings · 06/10/2018 17:09

Nay-oh-mee. Have heard some using the second pronunciation, never heard the third.

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/10/2018 17:11

No problem spelling it.

Marmite27 · 06/10/2018 17:11
  1. And I have always struggled to spell that and Jacqueline.

I’m not even sure that’s spelled correctly.

aloeveraowyadooin · 06/10/2018 17:11

Someone I know with the name gets it pronounced Now-Me quite a lot.

MountainPony · 06/10/2018 17:13

ChickaaaaannDipppaaaaassss - Yes, Nair-me is what I meant for version 3! Why don't you use it? Did you consciously switch to a more common pronunciation?

And do people spell it wrongly a lot?

EdWinchester · 06/10/2018 17:16

I know one - she's Nair-me, which I think is the naice way to say it.

Nay-oh-me sets my teeth on edge, like Meee-shell.

Ontopofthesunset · 06/10/2018 17:20

If you mean Nair-mee for pronunciation 3, haven't you missed out one of the most common pronunciations, NAY-uh-mee (which is three syllables unlike Nairmee)? I was at school with a lot of Naomis and they all pronounced it NAY-uh-mee. I have since met several Nay-OH-mees but have never actually known a Nigh-OH-mee.

ChickaaaaannDipppaaaaassss · 06/10/2018 17:21

I don't know really - It just sort of slipped to that as I started school. I guess people just find it easier to say.

I get it spelled wrong constantly tbh and I am stuck with Nay as a NN which everyone calls me, unfortunately.

Amusingly I MOAN backwards too, which I take stick for every now and then cos I love a rant!

MountainPony · 06/10/2018 17:27

Ontopofthesunset - Oh yes, I suppose NAy-uh-me and Nair-me felt sort of the same to me, but they're not are they?

OP posts:
MountainPony · 06/10/2018 17:28

I MOAN Grin

OP posts:
MountainPony · 06/10/2018 17:28

Yep, I wouldn't love Nay as a nn...
