@powerless sorry, I meant Mckenzie rather than Mackenzie. It's not that its a bad name, it's just that I've come across some children with the name who've put me off it.

The whole naming convention can get a bit confused. My brother has my mum's dad's name as a middle name as to give him it as a first name would mean his first and last name would be more or less the same, like James Jameson. My DH has his mum's maiden name as a first name and a family surname in the middle. Tbf he was the 5th boy so they were getting low on ideas.

countfosco Lindsay/Lynsey (and all the myriad of other spellings used for girls)?

thaegumathteth · 06/10/2018 09:21

Both our kids have Scottish names - ones from our lists were:

Fergus
Angus
Innes
Brodie (I love this but it’s vv popular)
Alexander
Alastair
Lachlan
Ruari (and yes I know that’s not the traditional spelling)
Corin

Not a fan of "Mac" names as first names either.

Calmac isn't a name... Caledonian McBrayne.

Fergus, Brodie, Blair, Alistair, Gregor, Callan, Cameron or go more off piste with something like Hamish or Torquil.

Have a look at the clan names! I love:
Ramsay
Maxwell
I’m also looking for Scottish name inspiration for DC3 so good luck x

"It's a surname"

Although it's a bloody dreadful name
That's not a valid argument,Happy.
Plenty of first names are surnames even your run of the mill names such as Paul Kelly Clare Lee Francis Stewart are all surnames. Plus Riley Harrison Jackson are all surnames I'm tripping over them.

Sorry piper calmac was a small joke!
It would enable you to call your child Mac though.

LeftRightCentre · 06/10/2018 13:24

No.

OublietteBravo · 06/10/2018 13:27

I love Malcolm and Angus. I’d go with one of these. Otherwise maybe Duncan, Sterling or Andrew?

JennyHolzersGhost · 06/10/2018 14:04

Calmac 😂

Botanicbaby · 06/10/2018 14:05

I don’t know what spelling I have given but it’s Lachlan not Laughlan. Perhaps stick with Malcolm.

MikeUniformMike · 06/10/2018 15:17

Use it as a mn.

ReginaPhalange89 · 06/10/2018 15:28

Just to add, my MIL didn't like out girls name either .. we still used it cos it was my favorite 😉 it's not her baby , if you love Angus you should use it !

MrsFoxPlus4 · 06/10/2018 16:02

I like it my first sons called Layton John after my papa everyone loves to remind me it’s a surname. We can’t all be called Olivia & Noah.
