Patrick or Liam?

Name for a 4th son. It's been a real pain because I'm Scottish, but we live in a Slavic country (where DH is from). I really wanted Ruaraidh or Murdo but they just don't sound right in the local language (where the child will be growing up/going to school) so have had to compromise on that. And we've ended up with 2 Irish names...!

I think I prefer Liam, but keep changing my mind..... any thoughts?

Patrick is lovely. I've never liked Liam, to me it's the same boat as Connor, Ryan and Callum.

Pixilicious · 02/10/2018 21:57

Patrick

April241 · 02/10/2018 21:59

I have a Patrick so I’m voting that! 😃

Disfordarkchocolate · 02/10/2018 21:59

Patrick is my favourite out of those two.

tartanscot · 02/10/2018 22:06

Patrick is definitely better than Liam.

villainousbroodmare · 02/10/2018 22:39

Patrick.

Patrick

RedDwarves · 02/10/2018 22:48

Patrick. Great name.

Liam is meh.

MollyHuaCha · 02/10/2018 22:52

Patrick

DramaAlpaca · 02/10/2018 23:15

I love both, but would choose Liam because while I like Patrick I'm not keen on any of the diminutives.

FlyMaybe · 02/10/2018 23:16

If you call him William you can shorten it to Liam.

Nothing wrong with good Irish names. My DH has Connor as one of his names and he is lovely. I wanted to call our DS Padraich or Ruaridh. Our DD has an Irish name too but it's too identifying to put on here.

dinosaurkisses · 02/10/2018 23:18

Love both, but I think Patrick travels better.

Also the nickname Patch is v cute for a small boy

UserMillionBillion · 02/10/2018 23:19

I prefer Patrick.

I prefer Liam to William tbh. But you could just call him William to have the option.

Conor is obviously a legend name, a high king, or a hero in the mythology. So not in the same genre as 'ryan' surely?!

Picknickers · 03/10/2018 00:39

Patrick by miles.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 03/10/2018 00:53

Patrick

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 03/10/2018 00:54

Nice one dino Patch is cool

moredoll · 03/10/2018 00:56

Patrick's my favourite. I like Liam too.

Courtney555 · 03/10/2018 00:57

Both Patrick's I know are referred to by their families as Patrick, and by the rest of the world, Paddy. They both hate it.

Thighofrelief · 03/10/2018 00:59

I love Patrick, tired of Liam. What other Scots names have you thought of? I like Maxwell and Duncan.

Rebecca36 · 03/10/2018 03:45

I like both Liam and Patrick. Nice, classic names.
(Lee and Pat)

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 03/10/2018 03:59

How lovely, OP, a 4th son. Patrick, definitely, 100%. With any luck, he'll grow up a little saint with a name like that!

Wishing you all the best 🍀

MrsFoxPlus4 · 03/10/2018 04:10

Liam by far!

maggiehilltop · 03/10/2018 04:28

Currently cuddling my own 17 week Patrick. I like Liam too, but it's more commonly used.

Lalager · 03/10/2018 04:35

Patrick is nicer — Liam is a Malcolm-y kind of name for me — but I don’t like Pat or Paddy, which he’s likely to be called. I know some Londoners who named their baby Patrick and tried to insist from birth he was shortened as ‘Trick’, and got very cross when outside of the house he was Paddy.

Mendingfences · 03/10/2018 04:54

I suspect the nickname issue wont be the same in a slavic country. Where i am the use of Paddy for Patrick confuses the hell out of people.....
