Someone trying hard to be 'posh'?

LeeMiller · 28/09/2018 17:28

Clementine - not my taste, but nice
Fleur - frilly. sounds too much like bleugh.
Arabella - Sloaney and fussy
Coco - nice nickname, not on the birth certificate
Claudia - nice.
Clara - love it, but it's quite popular right now
Jemima - Puddleduck

chiccoc · 28/09/2018 17:28

I'd also think 'posh'. That doesn't mean some aren't nice.

Clementine is too try-hard for my liking.
Fleur is OK, I think it's slightly dull though.
Arabella is quite nice.
I really like Coco, not sure I'd have the bravery to use it though!
Not keen on Claudia or Clara.
I quite like Jemima.

17caterpillars1mouse · 28/09/2018 17:31

Clementine is ok

Love Fleur. I know a lovely little girl called Fleur

Only other name I like is Clara but I prefer Fleur and Clementine

PrincessWire · 28/09/2018 17:39

Clementine - a small orange
Fleur - Harry Potter
Arabella - ok
Coco - a clown
Claudia - ok
Clara - nice
Jemima - doll off Play School

2cats2many · 28/09/2018 17:40

I think head of house at a down-at-heel private school.

Lynne1Cat · 28/09/2018 17:41

Clementine....like tangerines and satsumas
Fleur - nice enough
Arabella - too much of a mouthful. Would soon get shortened.
Coco - the Clown
Claudi - Winkleman. Don't care for it.
Clara - the cook lady who has appeared on tv. Not good.
Jemima - Puddleduck.

plumsnet · 28/09/2018 17:43

Fleur and Coco are really not nice. The others say upper middle class, probably first generation.

Laac · 28/09/2018 17:43

I quite like nicknames too so would happily shorten any of them!

Coco is my dogs name and I’ve also met lots of other dogs and cats called coco. Definetly wouldn’t call my child coco. The other names sound a bit lardy da. Which is fine if you’re well off and have everything else to boot, if not they could come across as trying to hard to be posh? Just my opinion.

Laac · 28/09/2018 17:50

Not trying to be anything in particular- would love opinions if the names in isolation rather than a feeling on the whole list! Smile

Clementine - love it. Pretty and strong.
Fleur - if pronounced the French way it’s ok, but Fleuuuhh is awful
Arabella - sounds pretentious
Coco - a nickname for Colette or Corinne
Claudia - a strong name (despite the meaning)
Clara - I like it. First heard it when I read Heidi as a small child
Jemima - like it. Jemima Khan of the gorgeous hair

Apileofballyhoo · 28/09/2018 17:55

Clarissa?

SpeckledDot · 28/09/2018 17:56

Poncy twat

Agustarella · 28/09/2018 17:58

Clara and Claudia are beautiful and classy. Clementine and Arabella are nice too. Save Coco and Jemima for your pets!

Nellyelora · 28/09/2018 17:58

Apart from Coco I think they're all really nice and I would name my dc a couple of those names. However, I admittedly have a fondness for names which others on mn consider posh/try hard.

SpeckledDot · 28/09/2018 17:58

Twat may be a bit harsh.

I'm not in a very good mood

sickmumma · 28/09/2018 17:58

I love clementine -
Clemmie for short however it was my
Nans cats name!

plumsnet · 28/09/2018 17:59

Clara is the nicest, because of the Heidi connection.

Agustarella · 28/09/2018 18:02

Fleur is super-ugly. Fleurrgh.

daisypond · 28/09/2018 18:02

I don't think any of them are posh! Perhaps Clementine and Arabella have a bit of a "posh" vibe, but none of the others. I like Clementine. Arabella is too frilly for my taste. Claudia, Jemima and Fleur are nice names (though I'm not personally keen on Jemima). Coco is less common, but I do know one in her late teens. It's a different style of name to your others. Probably Fleur and Claudia are my favourites - I like them a lot.

daisypond · 28/09/2018 18:03

I forgot Clara - I'd fit that in with Claudia, Jemima and Fleur.

helpmum2003 · 28/09/2018 18:20

Love Clementine and Clemmie is cute.
Also love Clara and Jemima

Fleur - ok
Claudia - ok
Coco - for me this is a bit chavvy sorry
Arabella - for me a bit posh.

VerbenaGirl · 28/09/2018 18:21

Clementine - “oh my darlin’, oh my darlin’, oh my darlin’ Clementine”.
Fleur - a bit meh.
Arabella - Weir. No.
Coco - love it, we have a guinea pig called Coco.
Claudia - love it! Winkleman.
Clara - the Doctor’s assistant. Nice.
Jemima - Puddleduck. Would be shortened to Jem.

BestZebbie · 28/09/2018 18:27

Clementine - the less-smart robot whore from Westworld (but until this year, fruit)
