You'll get loads of people on MN saying it's a great name. But there's a reason there aren't a load of baby Basils running around.

dinosaurkisses · 27/09/2018 21:05

I think the fact you felt you had to put (serious) in your thread title tells you everything you need to know!

trumptrump · 27/09/2018 21:05

Reminds me of the great mouse detective... Blush

LucyInTheParkWithDragons · 27/09/2018 21:06

I quite like Baz as a NN for some reason, but I wouldn't inflict it on a child.

Buggerbrexit · 27/09/2018 21:07

Are you on glue?

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 27/09/2018 21:07

For a rat like on Fawlty Towers?

DramaAlpaca · 27/09/2018 21:08

Just no.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 27/09/2018 21:08

A friend of mine and his American gf named their baby boy Basil.
They live in California.

No negative comments so far.

dingit · 27/09/2018 21:09

Is your surname Brush?

rainingcatsanddog · 27/09/2018 21:10

Boom! Boom!

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 27/09/2018 21:13

Our vet is full of Basils. I can't see it as a human name any more.

RedDwarves · 27/09/2018 21:14

I wanted to name my beagle Basil. It's such a beagley name.

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 27/09/2018 21:15

Eeees hamster

sexnotgender · 27/09/2018 21:15

I kinda like it. Can understand why people don’t though.

PippilottaLongstocking · 27/09/2018 21:17

A lovely name! I’ve met a very sweet boy called Basil and no one bats an eyelid when he’s introduced

delphguelph · 27/09/2018 21:19

Brush
Fawlty

HMC2000 · 27/09/2018 21:22

I know a Basil - he's 8, and it's fine. Lovely kid, and the name works, tbh. I reckon it's on the way back.

CAAKE · 27/09/2018 21:29
  1. Basil Brush
  2. Basil Fawlty
sunshineandshowers21 · 27/09/2018 21:30

i (surprisingly!) actually love it!

NightOwlHoney · 27/09/2018 21:36

I love it.

ClashCityRocker · 27/09/2018 21:45

The only basil I know is referred to as 'boom boom'.

But that might be too old a reference for today's kids? Although he's only earlier twenties.

trumptrump · 27/09/2018 22:41

It would be nice on a cat or as a middle name Smile

Sunflower321 · 27/09/2018 22:45

There were 13 little Basils born last year, so some parents love it.

Shadow1234 · 28/09/2018 00:00

Not for me im afraid.
Faulty Towers and Basil Brush immediately spring to mind!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/09/2018 00:05

I think of Brambly Hedge! I quite like it though. But maybe not if he has a sister called Rosemary...
