It's a bit daft.

Rapnoceros · 28/09/2018 08:41

Basil is the name of my cat. I quite like it though.

Almondio · 28/09/2018 08:43

I met a girl called Basil in the US, her name is pronounced 'Bay-sil' though.

BikeRunSki · 28/09/2018 08:44

Basiiiiil!!!!

Speakupspeakout · 28/09/2018 08:45

I like Basil. I think it's up there with the Stanleys and the Bills.

Polkasq · 28/09/2018 09:58

I think it's a great name, for a nature-related boys name. Brush and Fawlty were very funny comedy from decades ago and don't put me off at all.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/09/2018 10:01

There's one in the Jilly Cooper books too, although he's generally called Bas.

AgentCooper · 28/09/2018 10:03

Yes! I know a Basil who's Scots-Italian (Italian surname) and I think it's an awesome name!

Hersetta427 · 28/09/2018 10:27

No, No No....just no.

Haireverywhere · 28/09/2018 10:30

It's common in Greece. Less popular here. I like it.

daisypond · 28/09/2018 11:30

I like it a lot. It's common in some countries - in Russia it's Vasili/Vasily, so almost a stereotypically common and normal name.

Cosmoa · 28/09/2018 14:22

Mmmm I want some pesto now..

Sleephead1 · 28/09/2018 14:36

I like it and if you like it go for it

Rebellia · 28/09/2018 15:17

Top 3 Basils:

  1. Basil Fawlty of Fawlty Towers
  2. Basil the Rat, also of Fawlty Towers
  3. Basil Brush

Not exactly positive connotations.

The further into this thread I got the more I started to like it! I think it would be really cute on a little toddler but I can’t imagine a 9 year old thanking you for it!
