Does anyone like the name Roger?

I love the name but I'm struggling to picture a baby called it - and I'm worried that it's dated.

It may be dated but it's not a bad name. He'll grow into it just fine. If you love it, use it. What other people think doesn't matter.

cheesefield · 26/09/2018 14:31

WELEASE WODGER!

Sunflower321 · 26/09/2018 14:31

Good solid name. People's association will change as soon as they meet a young Roger.

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 26/09/2018 14:32

Lovely for a rabbit.

Proofer · 26/09/2018 14:50

@Aprilshowersnowastorm was also worried about the rabbit association and inevitable themed gifts! Grin

It's a no from me

NothingOnTellyAgain · 26/09/2018 15:06

Big nope from me.

Snowymountainsalways · 26/09/2018 15:09

Grin is what I do every time I hear the name Roger. It is very childish of me admittedly, but expect lots of sniggering and 'expectation' shall we say!

chuckiecheese · 26/09/2018 15:19

Roger is euphemism around here for having sex ie you've bees rogered!

Not a good name Sad

sue51 · 26/09/2018 15:21

Not keen, I can't imagine an infant Roger.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/09/2018 15:46

Portly solicitor comes to mind.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/09/2018 15:52

Yes, round here too ! A good 'rogering' ! 😂

iklboo · 26/09/2018 15:57

Roger Mellie from Viz showing my age.

ToBeARockAndNotToRoll · 26/09/2018 15:58

No, sorry OP. Simply because I went to school with one who was then called 'dodgy Roger' by the less than kind students.

MewithaC · 26/09/2018 16:08

Wasn't Roger melly the man on telly?

It is not a good name for children. It is the name of my dad's generation. Known as 'Rog' for short. Not good.

MrsRubyMonday · 26/09/2018 16:22

Also Roger is the alcoholic alien in American dad and that's what a lot of younger people will associate with it. I wouldn't use it OP. Sex and aliens.. poor baby

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 26/09/2018 16:24

um, no.

What about Robert? Similar, good solid name, no sex connotations Grin

sue51 · 26/09/2018 16:35

How about Rory or Rupert instead.

beefchowmein · 26/09/2018 16:37

No just simply can’t imagine a baby Roger Blush Robert or Rupert or Rory are all great alternatives as suggested

BloomsButtons · 26/09/2018 17:18

GrinGrinGrin cheesefield. That's exactly what came to mind for me too!

scottboy · 26/09/2018 17:18

Sorry but I really don't like this name, can't imagine a baby being called it.

I agree with PP's that Rupert and Rory are much nicer and less dated.

Tartyflette · 26/09/2018 17:22

to 'roger' - the verb - apparently came about because of the rural tradition of calling all bulls Roger.
(that's what Phil Archer said on The Archers many years some time ago so it must be true) Grin

mellongoose · 26/09/2018 17:54

Roger the Cabin Boy. Sorry 😐

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 26/09/2018 17:57

Oh no. One of my DC said they like the name Roger. I told them I'd disown them if they called a baby that! (They are teenage and hopefully a very long way off having kids before anyone thinks I'm being an interfering mother!Grin)

I don't think it's,time has come back round yet, if it ever will.

CountFosco · 26/09/2018 17:57

Roger the Cabin Boy.

This. Of course we all know it's an urban myth and his contempories won't know but your friends will judge you. Robert is excellent.
