Emma.

Knew a lot at school in 90s...

But I keep getting drawn to it!

It's a nice name, you do still get a few young Emmas, just not as many as there used to be.

It's not boring.

steppemum · 25/09/2018 15:22

it is very classic, and like it.

But then I am not a fan of all the fussy names, and like a clean classic!

milienhaus · 25/09/2018 15:23

I think it’s a nice name! The fact that it’s less popular these days can only be a good thing, less chance of 7 Emma’s in her class.

jadedgranger · 25/09/2018 15:24

I think it was boring 20 years ago but it seems quite rare now. I love it, i was just watching Friends the other day when Rachel named the baby Emma and thought it should be more popular

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 25/09/2018 15:30

Not boring at all, this is the sort of name where she is likely to be the only one in her class with it and it has the added benefit of everyone knowing how to spell it and pronounce it. Grin

butlerswharf · 25/09/2018 15:36

It's a classic name.

LightDrizzle · 25/09/2018 15:38

It’s a good name!

liquidrevolution · 25/09/2018 15:40

My dd is 4 and she is an Emma. It was top 50 (just) with about 1500 the year she was born compared to nearly 6000 Amelias.

There is usually a thread once every 18th months on here about how boring it is but...

  • DD is the only Emma in her year at school. In fact apart from the Headteacher she is the only Emma there full stop.
  • People say its a pretty name, they dont ask how we spell or pronounce it.
  • we have ridiculous surname so needed simple first name
  • all the Emmas I personally know are amazing women and have great careers (hairdressers, teachers, scientists and doctors etc)

I have no complaints and no regrets. Just avoid Rose as a middle name (we used two middle names including one very rare one to avoid this Wink)

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 25/09/2018 15:40

It’s classic and yet pretty uncommon now. I don’t know any younger than 28, so there won’t be loads of others her age with that name and yet it’s still a proper name that everyone knows. It wouldn’t be my personal choice but I think it’s perfectly lovely.

ZigZagZebras · 25/09/2018 15:40

I love it, Emily is popular around here at the moment but Emma isn't currently, so it maybe become more popular than you're expecting though if the Emily's start shortening to Emma.

statetrooperstacey · 25/09/2018 15:42

Emma's a nice name doesn't really date in my opinion. Not many young ones around either .

liquidrevolution · 25/09/2018 15:46

Oh and it is very classic. The last Emma with our surname was in 1154.

animcross · 25/09/2018 15:46

I think it's a bit dated and a bit boring, sorry. Just my opinion.

Bachstelze · 25/09/2018 15:59

Timeless classic, love it.

AnyaMoondial · 25/09/2018 17:18

I like it.

DaniC18 · 25/09/2018 17:24

I like Emma. Its a classic and lovely name. I know a few in their twenties and they are all wonderful. I also like Jane Austens Emma.x

ew1990 · 25/09/2018 17:26

I love it. Not that I'm biased Wink

VeryBerrySeptember · 25/09/2018 17:26

I thought this would be Emma!

I still like it, it's also a name with some history attached.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/09/2018 17:28

I was expecting Ian so Emma is much better!!

bridgetreilly · 25/09/2018 17:29

It's lovely. Also, I don't think it's particularly a 90s name - it's been popular for a long time before that!

TheFluffyHippo · 25/09/2018 17:30

I think Emma is one of the few names that doesn’t date. Fits the current trend for short names ending in -a (Ava, Isla, Mia) but is also very classic.

BumDisease · 25/09/2018 17:30

It's better than Clara or Ottilie or some of the other names constantly suggested here.

Belindabauer · 25/09/2018 17:31

I've always liked Emma.
Classic name.

VeryBerrySeptember · 25/09/2018 17:32

Also I think it sounds nice in all accents.

I don't like the sound of Amelia for example in quite a few UK accents (including my own!)

FluffyMcCloud · 25/09/2018 17:33

Lovely name! Not boring at all. Classic. Beautiful.
