Is this name too plain/boring/90s?!

Emma.

Knew a lot at school in 90s...

But I keep getting drawn to it!

Emma is beautiful and timeless - an excellent choice.

MollyHuaCha · 25/09/2018 18:07

Lovely name.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/09/2018 18:08

It's classic and classless - it's not one of those names which give people preconceptions as to what the person will be like.

keepingbees · 25/09/2018 19:05

I think it's a little dated, only because it was so popular in the 80s/90s. It's still a nice name and could become a classic if people carry on using it. My 6 year old keeps saying that she wishes it was her name lately!

daisypond · 25/09/2018 19:27

I'm not wild about Emma, though it's inoffensive. I can't put my finger on it, but a name like Anna seems much more timeless and classy to me. Emma is just a bit...meh.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 25/09/2018 19:37

Not at all dated. Simple, pretty and international. I can see how it might be thought a bit bland, but I don't think that myself, and tbh what we want for our children is a name that will go through life well with them - Emma is certainly that.

KateGrey · 25/09/2018 19:38

Emma is a gorgeous name. My cousin’s little girl is called Emma and if we’d had girls and my cousin hadn’t used the name I would have done. I don’t think it’s boring at all.

NastyCats · 25/09/2018 19:39

It's one of my dd's middle names and I love it. I chose it partly because I have a lot of good friends with the same name!

Madmarchpear · 25/09/2018 19:39

Bit dated in my opinion. It's in the same batch as Sarah, Stacey or Lindsay for me.

Aragog · 25/09/2018 19:41

Emma.

Still fairly popular round here. There are two 5 year olds in one class with this name at my school. My 7y niece is called this too.

Aragog · 25/09/2018 19:45

It was number 52 in the 2017 baby names of 2017 in UK

Ophelialovescats · 25/09/2018 19:48

As already has been said, it's a beautiful, classical name .
Same goes for Ann, Alice and Jane .
(a bit 'outing' of me )

Lornabecky87 · 25/09/2018 19:53

Go for it. It’s a beautiful name, it’s not overly common at the moment so she’ll probably be the only Emma in her class at school. However it’s still a very well known name so it won’t be misspelled or mispronounced, a big bonus.

I think it’s a great choice, very pretty name.

Pemba · 25/09/2018 19:56

Classic name, a lot better than some of those that are fashionable now.

I like it although I secretly prefer Emily

Firsttimer1234 · 25/09/2018 19:59

That was going to be my baby boys name if he had been a girl and he was o ly born this summer. I think it will still be our name of we have a girl in the future

IHeartKingThistle · 25/09/2018 20:02

I teach secondary and there are quite a few teen Emmas - one in every class I teach pretty much. I wonder if there was a little Emma surge when Rachel from Friends used it!

CoodleMoodle · 25/09/2018 20:06

I'm an Emma.

It's a bit boring but nobody spells or pronounces it wrong. I went to high school in the early 2000s and there were 8 of us in my year - 7 with the same middle name!

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 25/09/2018 20:15

I really like it.

Pemba · 25/09/2018 20:15

Emma Louise I'd guess?

DramaAlpaca · 25/09/2018 20:59

It's my favourite girls' name, but I never got to use it as I had all boys. It's a short, neat name, it's international, classless, easy to pronounce, classic and has been in use for centuries. I adore it.

Thighofrelief · 25/09/2018 21:02

I love it - Emma Jane

InvisibleToEveryone · 25/09/2018 21:08

I have an Emma (2005), in her year there's her and one other.

At primary school she was the only one the whole time she was there.

Rebecca36 · 25/09/2018 21:12

Lovely name. There are still quite a few babies named Emma.

Hobbes8 · 25/09/2018 23:13

I have an Etta and for some reason she calls half her dolls Emma! She’s only 4 so I doubt she sees it as an old fashioned name.

BitOfFun · 26/09/2018 00:36

I knew this would be Emma Grin. Laura was my first reserve.

Go for it- it's genuinely timeless, and you've escaped the 1990s ubiquity now. It's a great name.
