obviously won't be to everyone's taste! just looking for thoughts on the name and if there'd be any potential nicknames?

I love it but equally think it's a bit pretentious.

The kind of name I would love to call a baby and never would, personally.

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 23/09/2018 18:25

We had it in our list!! We got a ds instead!!
It was a fab shop in the 80's but didn't put me off!!

Wauden · 23/09/2018 18:26

Seems like a lovely name. Wasn't there a company called 'Athena' that published posters, by the way? Not that it matters.

igglypiggly · 23/09/2018 18:26

I love it

campion · 23/09/2018 18:27

Nice if you've got Greek connections. Still nice if you haven't but maybe think about how it goes with the surname.

You don't need to shorten any name. The obvious shortening is Ena but why would you?

catography · 23/09/2018 18:27

We have a cat called Athena (goddess of wisdom and justice, DP is in law...) and people always, always comment on the shop!

ElizabethMainwaring · 23/09/2018 18:28

Goddess of wisdom and Florence Nightingale's pet owl.

Faster · 23/09/2018 18:28

I think it’s a lovely name. Maybe a bit much though. I like it, not sure I would use it myself though.

DramaAlpaca · 23/09/2018 18:28

The poster shop is the first thing I think of but I am old

It's not my style of name, but there's nothing wrong with it.

Anasnake · 23/09/2018 18:35

80's poster shop, used to love it !

LucyInTheParkWithDragons · 23/09/2018 18:38

I know an Athena, nn Thea.

She's over 80, proper old school bluestocking academic.

She's fab, so it's a vg association

myotherbagisgucci · 23/09/2018 19:03

Someone I know has just called their LO Athena. It wouldn't be something I'd choose, but it really suits my friends DD.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 23/09/2018 19:08

Poster shop.
Although if you’re not in your late 30s or 40s you would get away with it.

SleepFreeZone · 23/09/2018 19:09

i too think poster shop but I also like it!

HermioneWeasley · 23/09/2018 19:10

Love it

BevBrook · 23/09/2018 19:10

I think of the shop. What an excellent shop it was. It must have sold something other than black and white posters of people standing on smoky railway platforms but I can’t think what else there was.
Which is not to say it is not a good name, OP.

MikeUniformMike · 23/09/2018 19:10

Nice

mimibunz · 23/09/2018 19:11

Absolutely love it!

IAmcuriousyellow · 23/09/2018 19:11

Big name to live up to..

terriblyangryattimes · 23/09/2018 19:11

I have an Athena. We've had no raided eyebrows and everyone Who has commented on it seems sincere about liking the name.

isabella2 · 23/09/2018 19:13

I like it if you have Greek connections.

Roomba · 23/09/2018 19:13

I really like it. I know a six year old Athena who is awesome! Her parents aren't Greek but one of them studied Greek. All the other Athenas I've ever met were Greek, I think.

ThanksHunkyJesus · 23/09/2018 19:14

Only if you're Greek.

LovelyBranches · 23/09/2018 20:21

I like Athena but I prefer Althea because I think it lends itself to Thea as a nn more

Peachbubble · 23/09/2018 20:32

I like it. I know a 6 year old Athena - her name doesn't get shortened.
