obviously won't be to everyone's taste! just looking for thoughts on the name and if there'd be any potential nicknames?

I like it but then I also like cake.

Moominfan · 23/09/2018 20:45

I love Athena would call her Thea for short. Was on my short list

Panoramarama · 24/09/2018 14:38

Pretty name but in the UK it's likely people would pronounce it 'a-THEE-na' when the Greek pronounciation is 'athin-A'. The first pronounciation (in Greek) is used for the name of the city.

This may or may not bother you and if it doesn't then I say don't hold back - even if you don't have Greek roots.

FWIW in Greece you'll meet people young and old with this name. It's not rare but also not overly popular.

Justtheoneplease · 24/09/2018 14:56

Love it, very pretty 😀

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 24/09/2018 14:59

I prefer Athene personally.

Aquamarine1029 · 24/09/2018 16:16

It's a beautiful name.

My fav shop as a teenager! Not my taste as I stumble when I say it, but nothing wrong with it v

PassportBridgetPants · 24/09/2018 18:31

I love it but was put off by the lack of shortenings.

LeeMiller · 24/09/2018 18:47

Makes me think of the poster shop but obviously that will mean nothing to her generation. I prefer Ariadne or Althea.

Neednameadviceplease · 08/09/2020 04:55

I cannot decide between Athena or Sophia. What do people think

MikeUniformMike · 08/09/2020 05:20

I don't like Thea at all, and I'm not that keen on Anthea.

MikeUniformMike · 08/09/2020 05:21

Oops I meant Athena

Neednameadviceplease · 08/09/2020 05:38

So Sophia better than Athena? My worry about Sophia is how common it is

MikeUniformMike · 08/09/2020 05:47

There were a few years when it seemed that every baby girl was Sophia/Sofia.

Oneandabean · 08/09/2020 07:39

I like it, I’ve never heard of the shop and I’m early 30s

hamblebamble · 08/09/2020 20:45

Nice but a little bit too aware of itself.

micc · 09/09/2020 04:26

I met a baby called Athena! So gorgeous. Its different but not hard to say and its sounds beautiful. Great meaning too!

TheChristmasPrincess · 09/09/2020 10:54

Quite pretentious and (imho) more suited to a cat. But there’s nothing offensive about it and sounds pretty enough so it’s not completely unuseable on a little person.

MikeUniformMike · 09/09/2020 13:45

The poster shop went into administration in the mid-90s, so the poster in her 30s wouldn't be likely to remember it.

The posters that you might remember are the tennis one and the man holding a baby one.
