Disfordarkchocolate · 23/09/2018 17:14

Half baked idea, sorry.

ElizabethMainwaring · 23/09/2018 17:16

Dis - you beat me to it!
(It's a daft name.)

QueenNovo · 23/09/2018 17:16

Not keen. Saskia as an alternative maybe?

Leilia · 23/09/2018 17:28

I like Saskia, but I think Alaska is a little weird. Plus it just makes me think of Sarah Palin and 'I can see Russia from my house'.

Unless you have some really strong personal connection to the place?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/09/2018 17:28

Terrible. In the same camp as Chardonnay and Mercedes.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 23/09/2018 17:36

As a RP Drag Race fan I immediately think things you don't want associated with a baby...

ElizabethMainwaring · 23/09/2018 17:36

It's irrelevant if you've got a 'strong personal connection to a place'.
I've got a strong, personal connection to various locales, but I wouldn't name a child after them.

RickOShay · 23/09/2018 17:38

The car was named after Mercedes, not the other way round
I quite like Alaska. Also like Asia.

Hanyu · 23/09/2018 17:38

I don’t know. I’ll ask her. 😂

Littlepond · 23/09/2018 17:40

Who’s that girl over there?
Alaska
Oh don’t worry I’ll ask her myself

LEMtheoriginal · 23/09/2018 17:42

We have a few alaskas at work. They are huskies

Vicky1990 · 23/09/2018 17:42

Don't you like her then?.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/09/2018 17:43

The car was named after Mercedes, not the other way round

I didn't say it wasn't, I referred to it as it's naff that's all.

MikeUniformMike · 23/09/2018 17:45

I was thinking half-baked. Might be quite cute for a husky.

crunchtime · 23/09/2018 17:46

Just dreadful
quite quite dreadful

wtf is goin on with the baby name boards lately?
You do all realise that you are naming people don't you?

Topseyt · 23/09/2018 17:47

Sorry. I immediately thought half baked too.

CaptSkippy · 23/09/2018 17:48

Makes me think of names like Paris, Montana, Blue and other weird celebrity kids names. I don't see the appeal of naming a kid after a place or a thing.

MrsFezziwig · 23/09/2018 17:54

GreatDuckCookery I think what RickOShay was trying to point out is that Mercedes is in fact an actual girls’ name - it is very common in Spain. So not at all naff there, although I agree that most girls called Mercedes in the UK are more likely to be named after the car, which is naff.

MollyHuaCha · 23/09/2018 17:54

I know a Mercedes who is lovely.

Alaska... hmm, I really don't see the attraction in it as a name.

But I know people with place names - India, Florence, Chelsea, Adelaide, Milan, Devon, Savannah, Paris.

Maybe I'm not keen on Alaska because I've never heard it as a person name.

RickOShay · 23/09/2018 17:59

Thanks MrsFezzi
Still quite like Alaska Grin

ilovechurros · 23/09/2018 18:01

Hideous. Please don’t.

Notsohorriblehistory · 23/09/2018 18:02

Just awful

bonbonours · 23/09/2018 18:03

Sounds like you didn't know how to pronounce and spell Alexa. Sorry.

Cheeseplantandpickle · 23/09/2018 18:04

Enko · 23/09/2018 18:04
