I agree with the other RuPaul fans. It's not for me.

Cosmoa · 23/09/2018 18:15

I'm a drag race fan so it just makes me think of Alaska Thunderfuck 5000 😂

Glumglowworm · 23/09/2018 18:39

I’ve only heard it in the John Green novel Looking for Alaska which isn’t something I’d name a baby after

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/09/2018 18:41

I like it!

ZebraKid71 · 23/09/2018 20:24

The only time I've heard it as a name for a person is in the book Looking for Alaska. It's very sad and not an association I would want for naming a child.

My friends dog is named Alaska, nn Lassie!

That aside, in isolation it think it sounds quite nice.

PlatypusPie · 23/09/2018 20:29

Might work if she had a husky voice

notacooldad · 24/09/2018 07:57

I like it.

TatianaLarina · 24/09/2018 13:09

Have you been OP?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 24/09/2018 13:23

How about Eleska instead ?

badg3r · 25/09/2018 22:20

I know an Alaska, I think it is lovely. No different to other place name names, Florence, India, France, etc etc

TuathaDeDanann · 25/09/2018 22:23

Yeh, agreeing with the others sorry, it doesn't work. Baked Alaska came in to my head too quickly. Then Fargo-esque visions of trudging along in snow blizzards

MrsEricBana · 25/09/2018 22:23

I don't hate it (surprisingly).

RoseAndRose · 25/09/2018 22:27

Paris the city has a totally different etymology from Paris the name (Prince of Troy, a real name originating in the Greek myths)

Sungura · 25/09/2018 23:45

It's a bad idea. Try again.

SnipSnipMisterBurgess · 25/09/2018 23:51

In a Dublin accent, I’d say:
‘Alaska, the state of ye!’

Or in a non-rhotic accent it might be ‘yer’

AdamHi · 25/09/2018 23:52

Nice name, If it has a meaning to you, all great, if it is a fashion statement, maybe worth a re-thin.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/09/2018 23:57

Either you’re asking for a wind up in which case well done.
Or you really think it’s a nice name in which case don’t ask if you don’t want a negative opinion

AnnieAnoniMouse · 25/09/2018 23:58

No worse than Brooklyn, Paris, Asia etc

...but no better either.

Just ‘why’?

Apparently the people who come to MN to shit stir use the baby naming boats to cut their teeth and to get their number of posts up. It’s always hard to know when an op is serious and when it’s one of them. If even half the op’s are serious, I’d hate to be calling the class register in a few years time.

LydiaLunch7 · 26/09/2018 00:22

To me it's no more a name than Ohio, California or Vermont.

DeusEx · 26/09/2018 06:41

Alaska Thunderfuck

HeronLanyon · 26/09/2018 06:49

Why not Nebraska nn Alaska. ? Seriously it leaves me cold - kind of a steppe too far for a name. A bit way out there ? Think your dc will spend life with people asking what her connection to the state is which could become tiresome for her ? Saskia ? Alana ?

PiperPublickOccurrences · 26/09/2018 09:04

It's not a name. It's an American state.

scottboy · 26/09/2018 09:06

@PiperPublickOccurrences as is Georgia! 😊

PiperPublickOccurrences · 26/09/2018 09:15

State of Georgia was named after King George II.

Totally different thing.

Thesuzle · 26/09/2018 09:27

Surname baked by any chance ?
