What are your thoughts on the name Liesel (pronounced Lee-zel) for a girl? Do you know any?

In the UK? A bit Sound Of Music for me.

SuperstarDJ · 22/09/2018 16:44

It’s like a hybrid of Diesel & Lionel. Awful imo.

SmallBee · 22/09/2018 16:45

I went to school with a girl called Liesel, I think it's a lovely name.

SmallBee · 22/09/2018 16:45

But Diesel is awful.

MollyHuaCha · 22/09/2018 16:50

I like it.

DramaAlpaca · 22/09/2018 16:52

It rhymes with weasel, so it's a no from me.

LeeMiller · 22/09/2018 16:53

I know a German one known as Lily, and would assume you have German/Austrian links or were a big Sound of Music fan.

Makes me think of a weasel.

Firstbornunicorn · 22/09/2018 16:57

I like it. I think of the Sound of Music.

DH would never let me name our baby that, he hates that movie! 😂

OrcinusOrca · 22/09/2018 17:08

My ex SIL was called Liezel. Her's was 'lie-zel' not 'Lee-zel ' though. I am less keen on the Lee pronunciation.

hungryhippie · 22/09/2018 17:13

Sounds too much like wiesel

ILoveDaveGrohl · 22/09/2018 17:14

Ah reminds me of the book thief. I like it!

OneMoreChancePlease · 22/09/2018 17:26

"Lethal" Liesel Jones- Australian former Olympic Swimming Gold medalist

Cbeebiesrehab · 22/09/2018 17:46

Bit too ‘Sound of Music’ for me too sorry

snowone · 22/09/2018 17:59

I like it.....but I LOVE the sound of music, I would always associate the name with the film Smile

piggie88 · 22/09/2018 18:26

I like it! And The Sound of Music is one of my favourite films so not a bad association.

Sungura · 22/09/2018 19:23

I knew someone who was Liesl who was a South African, pronounced Lee-zel. It's an OK name!

Cookit · 22/09/2018 20:20

I adore this name but would only use if I had German or Austrian links.

Piggyhoolier · 22/09/2018 20:26

Love it and would use with no German/Austrian links just plain old UK background.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 22/09/2018 20:39

I know an adult one (30s?) - although she is pronounced with the stress on the second syllable which seemed unusual at first.

I don't personally love it but I wouldn't foresee any problems.
