What are your thoughts on the name Liesel (pronounced Lee-zel) for a girl? Do you know any?

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 22/09/2018 22:56

Nope. I'm in Germany and old lady chic has done a massive swerve around this one, for good reason IMO.

GinIsIn · 22/09/2018 23:36

The hiiiiiiiiiills are aliiiiiiiive.....

Beckyz88 · 23/09/2018 11:09

I think it’s really nice, but then again I love the sound of music! I doubt many kids her age would get the reference either so probably all good.

redwinebreak · 23/09/2018 11:13

I think it's lovely. My first thought was Sound of Music, but that's not a criticism and I doubt children her age would get the reference.

Sleepykate · 23/09/2018 13:18

I wish I liked it more as I'd love to name my daughter after Liesel from the Book Thief. But the fact that it rhymes with weasel puts me off ☹️

SilverySurfer · 23/09/2018 19:20

There was one in my school in the 1950's usually referred to as measles (which most children had back then). Also agree it's really better if you have links to Germany/Austria.

QueenJulian · 23/09/2018 20:12

I’ve just read The Book Thief so love it!

TheLastNigel · 23/09/2018 22:37

From the sound of music. I like it.

RiverTam · 23/09/2018 22:41

Isn’t it Liesl? No second ‘e’?

It’s a nice name but I suppose I would think it a bit odd for someone with no German or Austrian connection. Well, I’d think that for about a second and then never think it again, so ignore that.

KERALA1 · 23/09/2018 22:43

Abit odd if you not German or any link. Like calling your son Pierre or something

Sophronia · 24/09/2018 04:09

I prefer the Liesl spelling

scrivette · 24/09/2018 07:59

I thought of Sound of Music but that's not a bad thing. It's a very pretty name and I think it's a good choice.

dancingbee · 24/09/2018 08:19

Straight away thought of the sound of music!

lynmilne65 · 24/09/2018 08:28

No

OwThatsGottaHurt · 24/09/2018 08:33

Liesl is nicer- I love the name!

BevBrook · 24/09/2018 08:38

I also prefer Liesl. It’s less diesel -y.

mammmamia · 24/09/2018 08:40

I like it because of the sound of music but I think it has unfortunate rhymes in English. Weasel, diesel, measles etc
How about Elise or Annaliese? Love those.

OllyBJolly · 24/09/2018 09:35

Liesje? Name of a friend who's mother was Liesl. Liesje is the diminutive form (Scandinavian).

She did change it to Lisa as soon as she could so maybe not for her. I like it though.

Sunflower321 · 24/09/2018 10:39

Liesel or Liesl are awful.

Lisa, Elise or Eloise are nice.

Sessy19 · 24/09/2018 10:43

I really like it. I knew a Liesl who was Dutch, she usually went by the shorter version, Liese (Leez)

Metalhead · 24/09/2018 16:29

No German in their right mind would call their child Liesel.

NorthernRunner · 24/09/2018 16:31

I like is as I adore sound of music but I wouldn’t use it because of the weasel rhyme

penguinpurple · 25/09/2018 18:19

I do like it but wouldn't use without German connections.

Sunflower321 · 25/09/2018 19:02

As Metalhead said, no German would use Liesel. It's a comical name actually!

Flamingosnbears · 25/09/2018 20:38

It's a lovely name nothing wrong with it in my opinion, it Would work in the UK its literary as well.
